Buffy, Slaying Vampires Since 1996 by shiruji. I have to quibble about the date since it was either earlier with the movie or the TV debut was in 1997, but a cute icon nonetheless!

All the Children I've Had to Say "Good Bye" To by protoneoromantic. Such a strong finish to this, and a title with such a punch when you know who it's said by.

Comics Buffy by misbegotten. Lovely set of Buffy comics icons. No. 5 is my favorite but the Xander one is also striking.

featuring retirement, moisturizer, and adventures. It's been recced here before, by feliciacraft, for action-packed amazingness and technical feats of prose. I also really love the way the conflict is resolved. (And there, I told myself not to rec Barbverse because everyone already knows to read the Barbverse, but two recs snuck through anyway.)

Because nothing takes my mind off things like combinations of crack, fluff, smut, and Spuffy. When I think of every one of these fics, one of the first summaries that come to mind is "everything is happiness, and nothing hurts". None of the stories take themselves too seriously. Most of them are full of smut. All of them make me smile and laugh. (It's late. Sorry! I somehow thought the end time was midnight local.)

In 2014 I wrote The Perfect Cup of Tea and I learned that Brits really don’t like it when you get tea making wrong. Note: I have since corrected my mistake and promise to never, ever do anything so heinous to tea, even if only in a story, again.

1. Gill O’s Tea Parties Suck, was written as a response to my story. I like to think my error, in that it produced such a delightfully humorous response, was almost worth making.

shadowscast (Ensemble, with some Buffy/Spike, PG-13). Here's Buffy's life in a nutshell: dead mom, dead-beat dad, dead end job, dependent sister. She's pulling double shifts at the Double Meat Palace to make ends meet.
And yet, she's actually pretty happy! She's got supportive friends and a sexy English boyfriend. Her life is full of love, and frankly after that accident last year and the coma, she's grateful just to be alive.
Oh, and the main point - it's NOT all-human AU.

Fuffy fans are not particularly active on LJ. There are several pretty active Fuffy forums and fic archives online, and the majority of Fuffy shippers spend their time there, or on ff.net. Still, there are wonderful Buffy/Faith (as well as Buffy-and-Faith) fics posted on LJ.

sparrow2000: Post-Chosen. My favorite Xander-centric fic for the year 2009. A rich launguage with a very powerful and sad plot about a very weary and bitter Xander. Filled with unexpected and intriguing twists. A must read.

Thirteen years after Spike had mysteriously disappeared, Xander meets him by accident in the London underground. Where has Spike been all this time, and what is he hiding? In my (highly subjective) opinion,

shadowscast writes the best Xander ever; seeing her writing again after a year of absence was a great joy. In her new story she introduces a simple and effective plot device I never encountered before - a potion that allows vampires to walk in the sunlight for a brief period of time - and she ingeniously exploits the idea on both narrative and metaphorical levels.

It’s probably no secret that I unashamedly worship herself_nyc’s amazing talent, which she’s generously applied in many wonderful Spike/Buffy stories. What I love most about her writing – and what deliciously breaks my heart every time and keeps me coming back for more – is that she never falls into the trap of making Spike and Buffy’s relationship easy for either of them. In her stories they have to work at it almost constantly, deal with their differences and their similarities as well as everything a Slayer’s existence can throw at them, thereby lending this most supernatural relationship a deep sense of realism and truth. The joy and angst she portrays are painfully exquisite, beautifully written and mesmerizing.

It’s hard to pick five favorites from among the wealth, but as of this minute, ( they are: )

The Janitor(Spangel human AU): This is the fic that convinced me that

sexymermaid was going to become one of my favorite authors. How could anyone read this tale of a slow-witted boxer and a crippled student and not be moved to tears many a time? This is one heck of a tale!
