5 Fics by Brutti ma Buoni

brutti_ma_buoni has been one of Buffydom's most prolific and varied authors this year; she's written tons of fics and all sorts of pairings. Here are my five favorites of hers this year (and a bonus). Mostly Buffy-centric, not all angsty despite the icon.

The Attraction of Opposites - Discworld crossover. In which Buffy and Sam Vimes comes to an understanding. I would love to see more of Buffy's eight months on the Discworld, but this is nice teaser.

For a Certain Value of Real - Spike/Buffy. Just when I think Spuffydom has run out of stories to write, someone comes up with something like this. Buffy was dead and now she's not, but neither is she alive. Or undead, for that matter.

To Cancel Half a Line. Spike/Buffy-ish. Folks, this is what we get when we tell Brutti we want early-season post-apocalyptic Spuffy with time travel. There's lots of unlikely alliances and a guest appearance by the Initiative, all told in spot-on Spike voice. Very satisfying.

The Green Card 'verse - Spike/Buffy. In which Buffy marries Spike in S4 for plot reasons, and then stays married. For some reason. I love early-season Spuffy, but I have a hard time believing it; this, I believe. One of the joys of my fannish year.

the wingfic sequence - Faith/Giles. In which Faith goes to Pylea and acquires wings, and Giles appreciates them. Not deep, but I love the Faith voice and I love how much she and Giles both enjoy them.

And the bonus: The Shady Side of the Hill and kidfic sequel - Wesley/Illyria
It's already been recced once, but it was written for me and I love it. No doubt Wesley suspected there were risks to sleeping with a godking, but clearly getting pregnant wasn't one he'd prepared for.

I couldn't agree more with the BMB admiration! So many good stories this year! "To Cancel" kinda blew my mind, "Green Card" was a delight, and I second your request for more of "Opposites". Do you think she can hear us? ;-)

Well done! Brutti_ma_buoni is an incredible writer. I'm not sure I've read all of these (she's also a very prolific writer!) but I definitely need to make up for that.

I'm really glad you got to To Cancel Half a Line, and enjoyed it. Definitely one of the more challenging and exciting things of the year.

Since I didn't do any Discworld for Yuletide, I might give that a thought. Not sure exactly what to do with Buffy, though... There are so many things she *could* do, but I can't narrow it down enough to start writing.

Wow thank you! I've read a few of her fics on a spander archive. For me, it doesn't matter what the pairing is, if the writer is good. And Brutto ma Buoni is excellent.
