The Prompt: Write about changes in relationships (friend to enemy or vice versa), or introduce characters that have never met, or something else that fits the theme.

Party Demons by [livejournal.com profile] kantayra - The world might be ending but at least Clem’s made a new friend. Hee!

Sleeping Arrangements by [livejournal.com profile] gwynnega - given that they're drabbles, it can be hard to describe the story without ruining the surprise

Unconventional by [livejournal.com profile] glassslipper - ditto

All in the Retelling by [livejournal.com profile] xmirax - rescuing the world from Angelus as told by one who lived to tell the tale

Hubris by [livejournal.com profile] knotted_rose - I don’t want to ruin the surprise. Angel story.

In a mad rush to offer one more list before time runs out, I am offering up five stories which have nothing in common except for the fact that I really like them. Hope that's good enough.

Gabrielle

1) These Five Words I Swear to You (Spike/Joyce) by [livejournal.com profile] angelskuuipo: Okay, I have to admit that I'm a big Joyce fan and I love seeing stories where she gets to take center stage. This? This is a crackerjack tale of Joyce being the center of Spike's attention at the best possible time. If you're looking for something that will bring happy tears to your eyes, this is your story. It's fabulous!

First time posting here, so I hope it's done correctly!  The tags won't load when I try to select them.  I don't know if that's a common problem, but I can come back later to try to fix them.

Hourglass by [livejournal.com profile] smells_corrupt
Rating: PG-13/R
These post-NFA drabble-ish-length vignettes from Spike's first week as a Shanshu-d human are absolutely beautiful- realistic, romantic, and with an ending that still makes me go adflkajdlfkjaldk.
"First she reminds him that just because it can’t kill him anymore, the sun can still hurt like hell and maybe it’s not such a good idea to fall asleep shirtless on the balcony. Then she peppers every inch of burned skin with kisses and whispers that the sun lit up his hair like a halo."

I'm not primarily a Spuffy 'shipper. Or maybe I am. I can't decide. Whatever, many of the stories I enjoyed last year were Spuffy stories, and here are five of them.

And Take My Walking Slow by [livejournal.com profile] snickfic, originally posted on Dreamwidth for [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy, a post-apocalyptic Spuffy story featuring a Shanshu'd Spike and a broken Buffy. PG-13. Brilliant stuff.

Caught in a Bad Romance....a meta of Buffy's Romantic Relationships by [livejournal.com profile] shadowkat67
http://shadowkat67.livejournal.com/506872.html
Spike is S6 reminds me a great deal of that metaphor. Their dance feels like a dance between life and death. Buffy wants to die, she is literally dancing with death, over and over again she throws herself into its arms, but death can't take her - because in doing so, death extinguishes the very thing he wants to possess. It's a bad romance - both characters can't have what they want. Buffy wants death. Spike wants life. She wants the fire, but doesn't want to be burned. He wants it to, and seems not to care if he gets burned. This can't end well.

Prism by [livejournal.com profile] penny_lane_42
http://community.livejournal.com/seasonal_spuffy/356065.html
PG-13, Season 7, episodes "Bring on the Night" through "Chosen". Buffy and Spike as seen by Potentials and Faith. Sharp, insightful character study; inventive use of POVs; great voices - Potentials have more interesting personalities in this fic than they have in canon. From Molly, who initially thinks that

Spike must be a dog ("Buffy talks about Spike being the only one strong enough to protect everyone and Xander’s jibes about him attacking people combined with Dawn’s sarcastic
comment about him needing to be put down made her really think it must have been a dog") to Faith who tries to convince Buffy that she shouldn't run away from her emotions ("I know you think anything that feels good is big-time evil. But that ain’t true."), it's a powerful and gripping story.

In my humble opinion [livejournal.com profile] anaross is one the finest BtVS ficwriters. Her works are a happy marriage of intriguing plots, sharp observations of human behavior and, often, reflections on the creative process.

Unspoken R
Spike/Buffy. Post-NFA. One day Buffy finds out that somebody gave her a garden... You may read the story as a straightforward Spuffy reunion fic or as a wry reflection on verbal and non-verbal communication between people.

I am in awe of writers who can keep it up over the long haul. I bow to those who can do so, and make it interesting and in character, with pacing and dynamism, and who manage to throw in something unforgettable. So, before I forget:

Forget and Smile by [livejournal.com profile] missmurchison R, at the end
After the NFA-battle, Spike shanshues, but loses all memory of being a vampire and of his former friends and allies. They don’t forget him, however, and Willow whisks him off to teach at her new School for Slayers in Iowa, where he fascinates and terrifies the students. When Buffy drops in for a visit, what will it take to keep her from playing the martyr and walking away? Could it be… a llama? Sweet, funny, exciting and sexy.

Some Spangel fic, Meduim size, so should be possible to read a couple on a quiet Sunday.

Under the Shield by BuffyWatcher

This was the first Slash fic I read, and it was great. I couldn't resist the summary. It is AU Human, with Liam in a Cop in L.A., and William....well how to describe William!

Part 1 here
Part 2 here

Joss swore many times that he'll never use time-travel in his stories until he finally caved for a while in Timebomb (AtS5x19). But ficwriters love time-travel stories. Why? Obviously, because Buffyverse characters change and time-travel fics are the best way to highlight these changes. Also - because it's fun and it tests authors' skills in plotting and character development.

1. Brave New World by [livejournal.com profile] jamesmfan

http://www.spikeluver.com/SpuffyRealm/viewstory.php?sid=19153

WIP, AU post-GID. After the confrontation with Shadow Men Buffy gets back only to find herself in 2033 where vampires are accepted as members of human society. When she stakes a vampire, she gets arrested and is accused of the murder. Spike, who works in a Humanoids United organization, is charged with her prosecution. The author focuses on characters but manages to create a very consistent and logical picture of the world in 2033.

1- He Never Did Listen by [personal profile] viciouswishes: Post-Chosen, pre-Not Fade Away. This is probably the most believable Xangel fic I've ever read! Fantastic! And the writing is amazing, there are many lines I loved especially the one about Xander tasting like a slayer. Amazing.

I'm in awe of these writers - not only because they create such rich stories, but because they manage to mix all the parts of 3 people together and STILL make the sex hot.  I'll go back and read (and re-read) these over and over again.  These are all NC-17 because... well... I'm here for the naughty.

You know how you can read some stories and yes, they're good, but you don't think about them again after you've read them? And then there are some that you can't get out of your head and you go back to again and again? The following are five from 2005 of those that fall into the second category for me. I've only mentioned completed stories, though there are some WIPs that may well be in my list for 2006.
