Buffy, Slaying Vampires Since 1996 by shiruji. I have to quibble about the date since it was either earlier with the movie or the TV debut was in 1997, but a cute icon nonetheless!
All the Children I've Had to Say "Good Bye" To by protoneoromantic. Such a strong finish to this, and a title with such a punch when you know who it's said by.
Comics Buffy by misbegotten. Lovely set of Buffy comics icons. No. 5 is my favorite but the Xander one is also striking.
Night Flight by JolieMariella. Wing AU Spike fanart.
The Ballad of Wishverse Giles by thenewbuzwuzz. Giles POV poem. I'd say "fun" but the episode theme wasn't on the happy side, so I'll just point out that it's clever instead ;)

However I think this is dependent on two things: whether or not the film canon has been generally transplanted to the TV verse, and second whether or not Buffy is beginning 10th grade mid-year or at the start of the year.
It seems to me likely that she's a mid-year transfer in which case it probably was 1996 that she was called.
However, especially if she's beginning at the start of a school year I'd think it was 1995 that she was called. If her memories in Normal Again were canon it seems a little rushed for her institutionalization, her parents' divorce, and Joyce's move to have happened in a few short months.
OTOH, at Hemery High she was cheerleading basketball games and those go on in the winter and spring months in the U.S. (with football happening in the autumn semester). Also the dance that was being planned wasn't prom from what I remember (which happens in the spring) and which she wouldn't be part of anyway since she would have been a freshman in the TV verse (whereas she seemed older in the film). So something like that could have taken place in either fall or spring.
So overall I think an argument could be made for 1995 or 1996 if we're talking canon rather than fandom timeline :)

Date: 2019-11-10 03:11 pm (UTC)While it seems that the original movie's general plot was kept for Buffy's background, we know that her first meeting with Merrick was different so we can assume that there might have been some minor changes.
