There are very few Buffy/Ronon fics out there, but here are five of them :)

... Myself In You by pprfaith.
Buffy as a Runner who hooks up with Ronon every 300 days before Dr. Beckett removes Ronon's tracker, and later on, Buffy's.

... Not Prince Charming by angelus2hot.
Ronon interrupts Buffy mid-slay and she isn't happy about it, until she gets a better look at her 'rescuer'.

... A Nice Place To Visit by craterdweller.
Another fic where Ronon interrupts Buffy's slayage, but this time with more enjoyable results...

... What Could Have Been by angelus2hot.
A wormhole malfunction causes Ronon to end up on Earth where he meets Buffy, only he has to leave before they can really start anything.

... Strange Bedfellows / SB, part 2 / SB, part 3 / Brain vs Brawn by ladycat.
Only the first and fourth parts are on AO3.
Cracky SG1/SGA crossover with snark, UST, and Sheppard fantasizing about shooting wraith with super-soakers.

As far as I'm aware, the authors on this list posted their first Buffyverse work this year (though I'm not necessarily linking their first work, and also it might be a one-off in between their works for other fandoms).

Advice to the Lovelorn by rosa_himmelblau (crossover with House, M.D., Spike, Greg House, background House/Wilson)
Dr. House meets Spike, to great comedic effect.

Five BtVS crossover fics

This is my first entry for Buffyverse Top 5! These are five BtVS Crossover fics I enjoyed. Hope you will too!

There is no particular theme that connects these apart from that they're all pretty short and do their job very well.

The Watcher’s Mistress by elisi is a great Buffy/Dr Who ficlet in which Giles and Missy find themselves compatible. This is a lovely idea, nicely executed.

So these are basically crossovers with a twist. Characters from one story appear in another. First up, Beer Good Foamy's Radio Silence. The Gentlemen come to Night Vale. Tune in to check out how Cecil keeps the broadcast going when everyone loses their voices.

Ships, I've had a few, but then again, too few to.... that's a lie. I can ship practically anybody, if the author can show me how it works. In these meaty, angsty, and plot-driven stories, the writers made me believe in an unconventional, non-canon pairing. (And one thruple.) There may not always be a ton of romance, but there are always a ton of feelings. All links to AO3.

Into the Dark Age by Sadhyl (NC17, Buffy/Ethan/Ripper)
Buffy ends up in Black Magic 1970s London, in the company of some familiar — if much younger than she's used to — faces. She hopes to stop them from making a terrible mistake. They hope for something a lot more basic.

A few more, with vampires... )

Five stories featuring Dracula, because it seems appropriate for the season. Mostly comedy. (I know, poor count would be appalled).

...Or May I Call You Buffy? by MarcusRowland. Dracula is writing to Buffy. From hell. Because some guys clearly don't know when to stop.

Movie Night by [livejournal.com profile] dragonyphoenix (or here is AO3 link). Buffy, at the movies in Transylvania, runs into an old... well, friend isn't quite the right word.

Okay, maybe not "we're all mad" but each of these features madness.

1. nwhepcat's Keeper of the Book is new to me so my comments are from my first read - Wow, the tension is amazing. Half-way through and I still don’t know what’s driving Xander. He tried to kill Cordelia. Giles, and in fact the entire Council in London, are missing. I have no idea what’s going to happen. … And I just finished it. Wow. Wow wow wow. Read this. Now.

the rest of the recs are taking one step beyond )

1. The Very Secret Diary of Andrew Wells by deird1 - Andrew’s journal, not exactly what you’d expect

2. hearing, seeing by [livejournal.com profile] kwritten - Dawn and Spike, grieving for Buffy, take a road trip without telling anyone

3. The Twelfth Sister by rowan (littlerhymes) - just so you know, very dark, but I'm pretty sure you alreay know that.

4. All Set Down - Oh Goddess, yes!

5. devo79’s Blackout - I always cry at the end
[identity profile] baudown.livejournal.com
I became inspired by [livejournal.com profile] red_satin_doll's classic recs wishlist. Among other things, she asked for rare pairs, Mr. Gordo, stories that explore the POV of voiceless victims, and overlooked characters. Some of these stories do double, or even triple duty!

1. Little Red Riding Hood, by Circe -- This is a rare pair, and an overlooked character, and it's from the POV of a voiceless victim. And it's fantastic. Spike/Janice

2. Stars and Crosses, by Emelye -- This is definitely a rare pair; it fits in another wished for category as well, but I'm not saying more -- there's a surprise, and it made me grin from ear to ear when I first read it.

3. Untitled ficlet, by Anna S -- This one explains itself: Spike/Lorne (the ficlet is in the second half of the linked post)

4. The Wall Series, be Debechan,Teland, and TheSpike -- Xander/Ethan -- this qualifies as a rare pair, right? Dark and dirty.

5. Domestic Bliss, by nomelon -- Spike/Riley, which I think qualifies as a rare pair, too. This is a must-read, even if you think this pairing is a non-starter for you (as it was for me, until I read it, and then WOW). It's original and captivating and emotional and hot. Trust me on this one.
[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com
So, sparrow2000, now you know why I've been reading - and commenting - on your stories lately! For the rest of you, some of the stories are dark - I'm looking at you Memento Mori - but I believe they're all worksafe.

  1. We could have quite a lively debate about which of sparrow2000’s stories are the best, but I believe any such list would have to include Magpie. The incredible writing, the detailed descriptions … I don’t know if I can describe what makes sparow2000’s stories so great, but this one has it all.

Okay, I'm pretty sure I've read Bit Parts before but I did just rediscover it.

1. Wolfling's and Wesleysgirl's All the Wrong Places. I've only read Part 1 so far but it is delightful. Doyle's trapped in a computer, about three years after he's died, talking or e-mailing actually with Wesley.

To Turn A Life Around (G, Moist & Billy)
Moist is in first grade when he discovers his true calling.

Mirror, Mirror (PG, Billy/Penny)

Billy was seven the first time he saw Dr. Horrible.

Greatly Exaggerated (PG,Billy/Penny)

In which Penny recovers from a near-fatal accident and tries to get her life back on track.

What A (Hench)men's Gotta Do (PG, Moist)

Doc's been in a bad way, since the events that catapulted him into the Evil League of Evil, and Moist is determined to do something to fix that.

Saving Expertise (PG, Dr. Horrible & Tony Stark Dr. Horrible/Iron Man crossover)

Captain Hammer's day-saving is interrupted by a smartass with a flying suit of armor - which naturally means the third party is a villain, right?

Here are my five favorite fics from 2008's edition of [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_giles, my favorite of the seasonal fests.

[livejournal.com profile] twilightofmagic: "And No Birds Sing" - Giles/Spike, FRT
You can read this as friendship or as pre-slash: the vampire and the Watcher, sharing a flat and not getting on so well. That is, until Giles starts to explore some clues dropped about who Spike is, beneath the leather duster and the braggadocio, and softens a little.

Oddly, though Spike/Drusilla is an important 'canon' pairing, it's very difficult to write. There's something illusory about the pairing - hard to get a handle on - probably because we saw so little of their 100 year relationship on screen but only its end. This hasn't stopped some wonderful fic writers from filling in the blanks for us over the years, though. Here are five of the best from 2008.

Boats Against the Tide by [livejournal.com profile] bookishwench, Spike/Dru PG13, set on Dover Beach and as melancholy and lyrical as Matthew Arnold's poem of that name, with a delicious twist at the end.

Each of these fics will forever be standouts for me for their style, plot creativity, and impact. Athough the pairings differ, they each pack a powerful, angsty, emotional punch that will leave you breathless, hopeful, and anxious. In no particular order...

1. Of Infinite Space by [livejournal.com profile] redbrickrose
Rating: R
Setting: Post-NFA ignoring comics canon
Pairing: Angel/Buffy/Spike/Faith and every permutation thereof
Summary: In the chaos and uncertainty following NFA, both vampires and Slayers must break free of past hurts and habits if they ever hope to make a future for themselves... with or without each other.

Comments: When I first read this story I was enchanted by the style of the prose and the clever use of past, present and future parallels that [livejournal.com profile] redbrickrose was able to draw between the A/B/S/F dynamic and that of the Fanged Four. A beautiful, thoughtful read that believably explores the relationships and roadblocks that exist between the shows forefront heroes.

Each of the following fics (and authors) left an indelible impression on me as a reader years ago, but I also credit them with heavily influencing my own work. I have always been interested in the interplay between sexuality-as-plot-device and how intimate encounters can work to reveal hidden truths about characters. These stories do just that while also exploring a theme near and dear to me - the value memory and rememberance.

1. By Way of Pain by AmyB
RATING: NC-17 for heavy BDSM and bloodplay
SETTING: Season 6
PAIRING: Spike/Buffy, Spike/Drusilla
SUMMARY: During Dead Things, Spike muses on his experiences with bondage through the years and its effects on who he has become.

Each of these stories are excellent and although they are permanent WIPs, you won't be disappointed with the plots. They range in chapter length from 10-47. Most written during or prior to 2006.

1. Absolution - Part I and Part II by [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre (R) - This is my all-time favorite Wesley story (which is why it's above the cut). It's definitely in the Top 10 Best Buffyverse fan fictions I've ever read--probably in My Top Ten Best Fanfics Ever, in any fandom, actually. It also has the distinction of being the first baby!fic I'd read that I thought actually *worked*. This is particularly surprising, considering that it's the Chosen One herself who is pregnant (given the heading of this post, you likely can already guess who the father is). However, this story actually deals with the implications of the Hellmouth being sans Slayer. I mean, you really can't do a roundhouse kick in the third trimester. Without this fic, I probably would have never dared to read any other baby!fics, since it is a genre that is so rarely well-done.
