There's a search engine designed for discovering old-fashioned little websites, and I took it for a spin with some Buffy search terms. Here's some of what I found.

1. (maybe cross the country become a rock star) by Amy (Giles/Oz/Cordelia, PG-13) in Loaded, the Giles/Oz zone of the BtVS Writers' Guild.
This was amazing. The mood and atmosphere of this story has aged well, by which I mean it gave me something like pandemic lockdown vibes despite being pre-2007ish and not about any kind of lockdown. There is a bunch of clever lines and a quirky, semi-absurd concept at the core of the story, which somehow connects beautifully to Oz's unmoored state of mind.

Ships, I've had a few, but then again, too few to.... that's a lie. I can ship practically anybody, if the author can show me how it works. In these meaty, angsty, and plot-driven stories, the writers made me believe in an unconventional, non-canon pairing. (And one thruple.) There may not always be a ton of romance, but there are always a ton of feelings. All links to AO3.

Into the Dark Age by Sadhyl (NC17, Buffy/Ethan/Ripper)
Buffy ends up in Black Magic 1970s London, in the company of some familiar — if much younger than she's used to — faces. She hopes to stop them from making a terrible mistake. They hope for something a lot more basic.

Because nothing takes my mind off things like combinations of crack, fluff, smut, and Spuffy. When I think of every one of these fics, one of the first summaries that come to mind is "everything is happiness, and nothing hurts". None of the stories take themselves too seriously. Most of them are full of smut. All of them make me smile and laugh. (It's late. Sorry! I somehow thought the end time was midnight local.)

1. Dead!Giles 'verse by

thea_bromine. Spike helps a dying Giles. Things get strange.

2. Of Old Mystics by Omphalos and

wolfling. After the Council has fallen, Giles rescues Ethan from the Initiative only to learn that together they have a destiny. One of my long-time faves.

3. Responsible Adults by mydiera and

sadbhyl. Giles/Ethan/Joyce. On the night Ethan would have pulled that Fyarl transformation spell on Giles, Joyce joins them. Things change from there.

The Other Bloody Ring: by Mabel Marsters - since I seem to be doing crossovers, here is a Spike/Damon story. Sorter and fluffier than the rest, it is definitely worth reading. Thwarted in his efforts to hold on to the Gem of Amara, Spike opts to go visit with an old friend, leading to some unsettling discoveries. Pity Us We Wakeful– Angel/Willow/Spike from Velvetwhip (Gabrielle) I believe that this is the one story in all of fandom that had the greatest affect on me. Bleak, tragic and beautifully written, it’s about the compromises we make, and how painful they can be. It’s greatest impact is that nothing really bad happens – no tragic event – it all takes place in choices people make and the half-life they live because of them.

A Sire’s Family – The first story of a trilogy. While this is definitely Spike/Angel, there is so much more going on in this wonderful AU. Angel calls his family to him very early in the series because Giles asks him to. I tend to go for stories where the victim's/slaves'/whatever-you-want-to-call-it thought-patterns are being changed; largely, I think, because there is a parallel to how we are molded by job/society. However, not all of these are dark.
But ... not worksafe. None of them. Don't even think of opening them at the office unless you work at this place (see last strip).
Edited: I now know where the last story is.

1) Ash Carpenter's The Show: Angel, to better infiltrate the Black Thorn, presents Spike as his slave. This one is very dark.

The description kinda says it all. Each of these fics had really ridiculous premises that worked on so many levels. Much laughter ensued.

1. Nicollette Says Jump by Kalima
Spike/Nicollette/Xander, NC-17, Season 4
Summary: Spike has a yen for a big girl. Xander eats too many brownies. Hijinks ensue.

Review: Oh my Lord, how I love this fic. This is the penultimate Spike/Xander buddy fic for me. Strapped with having to babysit Spike, Xander accompanies him to the Bronze where Spike sets his sights on picking up a hefty chick with tons of spunk. Nicollette is a wonderfully realized OC. She's got confidence, sex appeal and a fun-loving spirit that proves to be too infectious for Xander to ignore. The ridiculous antics they get up to at Nicollette's apartment followed by the pickle they find themselves in afterward is just too good. The characterizations are amazing, the plot is delightfully funny, and I just couldn't stop laughing the whole way through. This fic is a total joy. Also nice to see Spike diversifying his taste in women beyond emotionally unstable waifs!

I love a good, plotty fic. I'm also partial to a well-written piece of erotica. If it has some semblance of plot, great, but of course it doesn't have to. Not really the point.

Erotica, of course, is very much in the eye of the beholder (as it were), and these five fics won't appeal to everyone, but they're all well-written, (and hot IMO). Having said which, please heed ratings/warnings etc posted here, as well as on the fics themselves.

Empty Rooms, Shuttered and Dank, by

nomelon, Angel/Spike/Riley, Hard R/NC17. The author makes this rather unlikely threesome all too believable, with her trademark gritty prose. I swear you can almost smell the sweat.

Ah the abandoned WIP. Some of them are already epics, some only 5 or 6 chapters but chances are most of them had readers still waiting for an ending (or sometimes a middle). Finished or not though, many of them are worth reading anyway for the great stories or character moments they did have.

1.Season Noir by Anna S. - NC-17 – An ambitious attempt at a Buffy S8 that had one of the most fascinating final chapters I’ve ever read. A pity it’ll never get to its intended conclusion but I’m not too unhappy it ended on the note that it did.
