I really admire people who can put visuals together, either art or videos. I can play with words to my heart’s content, but pictures are way beyond me. Here are five vids that have got under my skin over the years.

nwhepcat's Keeper of the Book is new to me so my comments are from my first read - Wow, the tension is amazing. Half-way through and I still don’t know what’s driving Xander. He tried to kill Cordelia. Giles, and in fact the entire Council in London, are missing. I have no idea what’s going to happen. … And I just finished it. Wow. Wow wow wow. Read this. Now.

1. Dead!Giles 'verse by

thea_bromine. Spike helps a dying Giles. Things get strange.

2. Of Old Mystics by Omphalos and

wolfling. After the Council has fallen, Giles rescues Ethan from the Initiative only to learn that together they have a destiny. One of my long-time faves.

3. Responsible Adults by mydiera and

sadbhyl. Giles/Ethan/Joyce. On the night Ethan would have pulled that Fyarl transformation spell on Giles, Joyce joins them. Things change from there.

4. Bookends by

il_mio_capitano. Buffy/Giles. Mmm, a story that brightens my day when a new chapter is posted.

5. In the Morning of the Magicians by

indri. Ripper/Ethan back in the day. On of my favorite BtVS stories.

I tend to go for stories where the victim's/slaves'/whatever-you-want-to-call-it thought-patterns are being changed; largely, I think, because there is a parallel to how we are molded by job/society. However, not all of these are dark.
But ... not worksafe. None of them. Don't even think of opening them at the office unless you work at this place (see last strip).
Edited: I now know where the last story is.

1) Ash Carpenter's The Show: Angel, to better infiltrate the Black Thorn, presents Spike as his slave. This one is very dark.

I know, why would anyone write a non-Spander fic, but the stories are actually good, and yes, three are by the same author. I really like them!

1) The Carpenter and the Wood by justhuman
Xander/Mr. Pointy. Funny as all get out!

It wasn't a nefarious booknapping plan. It was much more like a jellybelly-napping plan. Giles kept a stash in the middle drawer of his desk.

A domestic yet in character look at movie night with Riley and Xander.

Unified Theory (Riley/Fred, PG-13)

Fred and Riley meet at a math camp in their teens. The Fred voice is pitch perfect and Riley is written well. Its totally cute story of summer crushes.

We Three Kings ( Riley/Graham/Forrest, NC-17)

Three Intiative boys go on a camping trip in this sexy character study in season four. This is amazingly hot and insightful.

I love a good, plotty fic. I'm also partial to a well-written piece of erotica. If it has some semblance of plot, great, but of course it doesn't have to. Not really the point.

Erotica, of course, is very much in the eye of the beholder (as it were), and these five fics won't appeal to everyone, but they're all well-written, (and hot IMO). Having said which, please heed ratings/warnings etc posted here, as well as on the fics themselves.

Empty Rooms, Shuttered and Dank, by

nomelon, Angel/Spike/Riley, Hard R/NC17. The author makes this rather unlikely threesome all too believable, with her trademark gritty prose. I swear you can almost smell the sweat.

The fics this year that made me go GUH! All have a incredibly hot sex (evoking the state of 'guh-ness'), fun plot, and many more than one chapter. Also, no matter how angsty they get, they all have that tricky kind of happy ending that makes me pleased I spent all that time reading. Oh, and they're all slash except for the last one.
