Oh goodness, here I am again. This time, here are five great fics from yesteryear with rare or rare(ish) pairings.

Knocking on Heaven’s Door by estepheia is Spike/Andrew, not a pairing that springs readily to mind. This is a what if when Spike and Andrew are on a mission at the end of S7. There may be tequila involved and Andrew has things he wants to do before he dies.

Because it is not a secret that I’m a Xander girl, every year I challenge myself to do at least one rec list for

buffyversetop5 that doesn’t have Xander in any of the stories. This is this year’s list.

In Living Dangerously by andraste Andrew bakes muffins (with real blueberries…) and has an epiphany. This is short, nicely written and quite delightful.

Reluctant Masquerade by

xspike4evax. A bit of Giles POV on Wesley circa BtVS season 3, perfectly spot-on.

Déjà vu by

darkheartwalsh (DHW). There is a dead woman in his bed. It isn't the first time.
Stunning and absolutely heartbreaking portrayal of Giles soon after "The Gift". Also, it's probably the most efficient parallel I've ever seen used in buffyverse fics.

Gently Down the Stream by

shadowscast (Ensemble, with some Buffy/Spike, PG-13). Here's Buffy's life in a nutshell: dead mom, dead-beat dad, dead end job, dependent sister. She's pulling double shifts at the Double Meat Palace to make ends meet.
And yet, she's actually pretty happy! She's got supportive friends and a sexy English boyfriend. Her life is full of love, and frankly after that accident last year and the coma, she's grateful just to be alive.
Oh, and the main point - it's NOT all-human AU.

sb_fag_ends ficlets by this author, but as I said before, I could have chosen any of her work for the comm, because they're all wonderful. This one is just too good to miss. Very, very sad, though.

Back today with five of my favourite stories by

shadowscast. I love her stories so much. She writes the best Spander (not a pairing I otherwise read) and can, when she wants, deliver a killer punch to the emotional gut.

Sunshine, Spike/Xander, NC17 for one short, but explicit sex scene. Thirteen years have passed since Spike mysteriously disappeared in Africa. What's he been doing all that time? On a visit to London for a happy occasion, Xander gets to find out.

Sumary: Written for obsessedmuch who requested a future setting, happy couple, and a puppy. This is set rather vaguely in a future where evil is still being fought by our heroes; Riley heads up a demon-hunting/Slayer-supporting military-type unit under the control of the Council rather than the government.
Why should you read it? PUPPY!! Besides, Xander/Riley, in my reading experience, is an awfully cute pairing anyway ;)

I've been racking my brains trying to think of a suitable category for my recs and at last I've come up with one. Here are five of the fics set post-NFA that I enjoyed the most in 2006.

Secret Language of the Heart by

twilightofmagic, Giles/Spike, Wesley/Giles implied, Spike/Angel implied, rated G.
A beautifully-written story of loss and eventual hope set in England. Giles has a visit from a certain blue-haired former god-king and her travelling companion, Spike.

The fics this year that made me go GUH! All have a incredibly hot sex (evoking the state of 'guh-ness'), fun plot, and many more than one chapter. Also, no matter how angsty they get, they all have that tricky kind of happy ending that makes me pleased I spent all that time reading. Oh, and they're all slash except for the last one.
