Five fics that I've thoroughly enjoyed reading in 2008 and which all had one thing in common. Varying degrees of 'kink' as well as some darn good writing and characterization.

1) Age of Unreason by shapinglight

Pairings: Spike/Angel Spike/OC Spike/Wes Spike/Giles
Ratings: Very NC 17
Warnings: Slavery, BDSM, slash some het.

Direct follow on from events in Coming of Age. Can Spike save the world and in the process save himself?

I know many we think me biased, but having read the whole of this now (It's currently being posted in installments on her fic lj

glassdarklyuk) I have to say I find this a magnificent piece of work. Some may be put off by the some of the dark and more sexual elements of this story, but that would be a shame as they'd be missing out on an incredibly rich and complex story that spans generations. It's a 'through a glass darkly' take on If season 6 of Ats had it continued. Beautifully written, with superbly authentic character voices too. Very Highly recommended.

2) Mad Queen of Cleveland by hello_spikey

Pairings: Spike/Faith Spike/Dru Spike/Buffy
Ratings: Hard R?

I hope this ones allowed as although it was started in late 2007 it ended mid 2008. Not strictly a kink fic, but has some glorious dark set pieces within it.

This is a captivating look at Slaying in Cleveland, lively and entertaining, with a well-crafted, well-developed relationship between the two surprisingly well-suited protagonists, as well as a plot filled with fun, danger, wonderful original characters, old favorites, rivalries, snappy dialogue, and twisty goodness.

3)'Subspace' by toobusy2write

Pairings: S/A (main), S/? (several)
Rating: very NC17

Warning: Teenage (but legal) Spike in a BDSM relationship with an older man.
Summary: Human AU. Days after Spike turns eighteen, he gets sucked into a whole new world by a mysterious man, but is it one he's ready for?

A wonderfully written and steamy fic that may not be to everyones taste, but certainly turned out to be mine. *g*

4) The Grey Area by shylahmask

Summary: Set somewhere around "Destiny." A man takes advantage of Spike's uneasy relationship with Angel.

Started some while back, but still continued to be posted in segments this wonderful dark tale continues to captivate and thrill me. Her OC Ambrus is one of the scariest villains that has ever graced a fanfic. *wibble*

5) The Mission by shylahmask
