Oh goodness, here I am again. This time, here are five great fics from yesteryear with rare or rare(ish) pairings.
Knocking on Heaven’s Door by estepheia is Spike/Andrew, not a pairing that springs readily to mind. This is a what if when Spike and Andrew are on a mission at the end of S7. There may be tequila involved and Andrew has things he wants to do before he dies.
Fancy a bit of Giles/Spike gambling for forfeits as they play cards? Then 21 by Thea_Bromine is the fic for you. Thea writes awesome spanking fics and this one is great fun.
In Let the World Spin series by wesleysgirl the world has gone to hell after Buffy fails to stop Glory and those who are left can only try to survive and cling to each other. This is mainly Spike/Dawn with a side order of Xander/Wesley, so you get two rare(ish) pairings for the price of one. Be warned there is off-screen non-con at the start of this story, so please read the warnings at the head.
Brand New Thing by Teland is Cordelia/Faith. After the betrayal by Xander and Willow, Cordy takes a walk after dark and runs into Faith. They walk and talk a little and then just a little more. I’ve loved Te’s writing since I first read Post Grad way back in the day and this little ficlet makes me very happy.
Finally there’s Rainmakers by inkandchocolate (formerly Lar). This is Lindsey/Riley, not a pairing that readily springs to mind, but the author absolutely makes it work. This is five long snapshots of two men who’ve left their old lives behind and aren’t really sure what they want from their future, other than for it not to be the same as their past. Wouldn’t you just know that they’d end up in the same town in the middle of nowhere. I really loved the slow build of this relationship, going for wariness to gradual trust and finally to something deeper. The characterisation is super and the atmosphere is tangible. Just gorgeous.
