There were some beautifully written angsty fics posted in the fandom in 2007. Here are five of my favourites. Angsty doesn't necessarily mean with a sad ending, by the way, though sometimes it does. Again, this being me, they're mostly (though not all) Spike-centric.

Firstly, there's Some Girls Wander by Mistake by [livejournal.com profile] madame_meretrix, Angel, Spike PG-13. Written for the IWRY fic marathon, it features a strange and frightening post-NFA world and an Angel lost in dreams/nightmares of Buffy. Can Spike bring him back to reality?

There were some great stories posted to [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_giles This is one of my favourites, written by one of my favourite fanfic writers, [livejournal.com profile] shadowscast.

It Never Happened Giles/Spike R - an AU (or is it?) version of the events of the summer between Buffy's death in The Gift and her resurrection in Bargaining.

I only read this next story the other day. It was written for [livejournal.com profile] noel_of_spike and features a pairing I've never come across before but which works beautifully here.

California Christmas part 1 and Part 2, Spike/Justine R by [livejournal.com profile] shylahmask

[livejournal.com profile] hello_spikey is new to the fandom but has already posted plenty of great fanfiction. I highly recommend her WIP The Mad Queen of Cleveland. The following is one of her short fics that really packs a punch to the gut. Poor Spike!

Anything Goes, Spike/Lindsey, NC17

Finally, another piece of superlatively written, spare prose from [livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy, set in the Normal Again-verse.

Merry Christmas (I don't want to Fight Tonight), Buffy, Joyce, Hank PG-13.

Scratch that, I just read the last one. It's beautifully written and really angsty. Excellent choice.
