My Top 5 Guh! worthy series for 2005

buffyversetop5The fics this year that made me go GUH! All have a incredibly hot sex (evoking the state of 'guh-ness'), fun plot, and many more than one chapter. Also, no matter how angsty they get, they all have that tricky kind of happy ending that makes me pleased I spent all that time reading. Oh, and they're all slash except for the last one.

Why I chose this: This is one of the first, and most effective, Giles/Spike I've read. Not only because the sex is so blisteringly hot, but because there's a great deal of back and forth before Giles can really accept Spike. It starts during S4, when Spike is imprisoned in Giles' bathtub, and goes on from there. Also, because reading it through to the end always gives me that warm feeling that all is right with the world.

Janedavitt & Wesleysgirl make it all work, without making you feel like you're reading excessive emotions -- and they'll never leave you wondering why it seems like there are too many limbs too.

Why I chose this: Although most of this 'verse was written in 2004 (and the fic began in 2003), this particular moment was written early 2005 and is a totally sweet and wonderfully sexy summation of Wesley's relationship with the two vampires. And the series itself? Kinky, burning, and beloved.

Why I chose this: Wow, looking back on this fic, it's one of the most complex and readable tag!fics I've ever read. It's post everything, and Xander is working on the Hellmouth and finds an injured Spike in the rubble. The relationship between the two is magnificent, and one of my favorite Xander stories - where he reclaims himself, in a sense, and Spike helps him do it. Yum.

Why I chose this: So Wes is brought back after NFA, and boy is he angry, and hurt, and wants to be Faith's Watcher again, but not always in a comfortable way. This fic is almost too much for me, because it's so passionate and these three people are so emotionally clenched in one way or another that you're not sure it's going to work... and yet, Janedavitt does make it work, in so many ways.
