Here are my five favorite fics from 2008's edition of

summer_of_giles, my favorite of the seasonal fests.

twilightofmagic: "And No Birds Sing" - Giles/Spike, FRT
You can read this as friendship or as pre-slash: the vampire and the Watcher, sharing a flat and not getting on so well. That is, until Giles starts to explore some clues dropped about who Spike is, beneath the leather duster and the braggadocio, and softens a little.

2- The Ruin of Good Men written by

lusciousxander : A look at how life could've pushed Xander Harris to the brink, doing things he wouldn't have dreamt on doing to his worst enemy.

3- The Shadow by the Door written by

lusciousxander : After The First started manipulating Spike and Spike started living with Xander, how far can The First make him go? And how would Xander react to that? It's a bit dark *smirk*

4- Bithdays written by

minnow1212: Some of these birthdays have touched me.

5- Lost Friendship written by

lusciousxander : Two points of view of the same situation from Spike and Dawn in season seven.

When in doubt, make a list. That's what this comm is about, right? And since I'm awfully fond of the "X somethings Y Z'ed"-type fics, here's five I enjoyed in 2007 – some of them made me laugh, others ripped my heart out and stomped on it (y'know, in a good way), some of them managed both before they were over. Some are porny, others are completely non-porny, all of them make perfect sense for the characters.

annakovsky: This is the obvious choice of the number one best Xander/Dawn fic. There are many AMAZING Xander/Dawn fics, but never better than this. It's Christmas, it's Post-Chosen, it's bitter Dawn, it's smoking Xander, it's perfect.

I'm a huge sucker for Spike and Dawn! I've always thought the two of them brought out things in each other that no one else did; and one of my biggest regrets for season 7 of BtVS is that we never got to see the two of them reconcile. So I'm a sucker for fic than lets me see them interact!

This may need a few words of explanation. I have to admit that sometimes the various fics I've read blur together for me and it's hard to remember who wrote which stories and how the plot went. But I often remember great lines (especially the funny ones). So I started doing a "Fic Quotes" thing on my LJ only the quotes started getting longer. So now I'm calling them Moments in Fic. ( Here are some from 2005 )
