A bit of a mishmash, this list. In the end, I just picked some favourites and then went 'large' at the end.

The Small Places, Angel/Spike NC17 by [livejournal.com profile] girlpire. [livejournal.com profile] girlpire has a wonderful, matter of fact sense of humour (so matter of fact it comes across as faintly surreal, I think), which is much in evidence in this story, in which Spike - very uncharacteristically - doesn't have a word to say for himself and yet manages to speak volumes.

The Sheet Anchor PG-13/R by [livejournal.com profile] peasant_. Not strictly a Spangel fic, and Joss'd to high heavean, as the author readily admits, this is a jolly 18th century naval romp, in which, for various reasons to do with avoiding being punished by Angelus, young vampire William joins the navy.

Five Things Angel Never Says to Spike, NC17 by [livejournal.com profile] lyrstzha. One of my favourite Spike/Angel stories, beautifully written, in which the alley fight in NFA brings Angel an unexpected reward.

On the Rocks, Spike/Angel NC17 by [livejournal.com profile] frimfram. I always end up reccing this story, but am more than happy to do so again. Spike catches up with a shanshu'ed Angel somewhere on the north-east coast of America. I swear you can smell the ozone.

I wanted to choose an example of a much older style of S/A fic to end with, to try and point newcomers to the fandom to old stuff they might have missed. Some of it reads strangely now, but there's a lot that's still worth reading. In the end, though, I couldn't choose an individual representative story, so I'll end with a link to Saber Shadowkitten's Spike/Angel fanfic archive, which contains S/A fics of all varieties, from dark as dark to fluffy as kittens. A look into Buffyverse fandom history.

Nice selection of authors and good to see that you, like so many, have gone back and picked classic authors.

*nods* It's such a physically tangible story, which sounds odd, but she has the most amazing way with words. Brilliant selection!

Thank you for these. It's wonderful to see Spangel being rec'd, and now I'm very excited as I think there are two that I haven't read before. I have 'The Sheet Anchor' open, but I can't see 'On The Rocks'. *wails*

Do you have a link that isn't flocked? The thought that there is a new Spangel fic that I can't get to is killing me!

Thank you. I have read it before, but a long time ago. It was excellent and now I'll be able to read it again this weekend.

I think I've only read two of these and loved them both. I'm looking forward to "The Sheet Anchor" and "On the Rocks."

I loved "The Small Places" and look forward to checking the rest out. Spangel isn't a pairing I really seek out, so I'm always happy to get very specific recs.
