Your picks for everything fannish

Thanks to everyone who contributed posts and who came by to cheer on the posters! Your mods, petzipellepingo and I, feel it can't have escaped anyone's notice that this was the smallest session we've had at Top 5 during its 12 years, and that the two week session had most of its contributions in the first five days.

We've discussed what we should do going forward and think that, although there's still enough new fanwork production each year to support an annual session, the fact that so much of it is shared at other sites now tends to contribute to the difficulty in knowing when it was produced, and possibly stumbling across content that is being reshared rather than newly created. Classic Recs is running on both LiveJournal and Dreamwidth this year. Post at whichever you wish, although if you prefer to post on LJ you don't need to duplicate your post on Dreamwidth as it will be imported there once our session closes. And if you read us on Dreamwidth, do drop us a comment there to let us know so we have an idea of who's following along.

Just a reminder to everyone that the 2016 annual session will be closing in approximately 24 hours, so if you've got any last posts to share, send them out :)

After the holiday madness is over, don't forget to look back at 2016 and think about the things that were actually good about it, such as Buffyverse fanworks!

The Wishlist

For those of you who have been around a while, you may remember the Top 5 Wishlist. Unfortunately as content has slowed in recent years, wishlist content is more difficult to find for our annual sessions, so this was discontinued.

However, with all time periods and Whedon fandoms open during the Classic Recs session, it should be easier to fulfill someone else's wishes!

Comment below with a line or two about what sorts of recs you’ve been hoping to see posted. If you see requests here that you could make a post about, start putting a Classic Recs list together! The more people who post, the more likely everyone will find what they’re looking for.

Remember, comments below should be your own wishes ONLY. Respond with Classic Recs lists posted to the community once we open.

Just a reminder that Top 5 is also available year round for searching through tags and Memories. While the Memories feature is not available on Dreamwidth, the DW site does provide a few other searching advantages:

1) The entire community is searchable (use the search box in the top left side).
2) The ability to open all cut-tags showing in the journal view with one click for easier browsing (check the arrows under the search box).
3) Tag searching using combined terms. Copy/paste the following into the search box, only substitute the terms you want for "Tag 1" and "Tag 2" (remember to keep the comma between them). http://buffyverstop5.dreamwidth.org/tag/Tag1,Tag2?mode=and

As October is beginning, Top 5 is usually gearing up to hold its Classic Recs session over the Halloween weekend. Top 5 originally began as an annual challenge for recommendations to fan-created Buffyverse work. Thanks to user input, we expanded this the following year to include Buffyverse recs from any time period during Classic Recs, and later to all other Whedonverse fandoms during Worlds Without Shrimp, held in the first weeks of April.

However, as participation has been declining in numerous Buffyverse communities and challenges on LJ over the past few years, we've seen the same happen with the Top 5 sessions. While we intend to hold the annual session as usual beginning on January 1, we wanted to gauge user interest in holding the various different sessions during this next year.
