5 Rare-Pair Fics

Yay, rare pairs. The watchwords here seem to be "sweet and functional," which is generally my favorite kind of ship, even/especially when functionality doesn't seem too likely for the pairing involved.

1. The Five Worst Things About Dating Andrew Wells (part 1 and part 2), by deird1
post-series - Dawn/Andrew
Technically a WIP, I suppose, these are the first two parts of Dawn's cautious quest to win for herself one Andrew Wells, and they're pretty much adorable. I just don't ship Andrew generally, but Deird totally sells me on this scenario.

Top Four Joys that Started in 2010

1) Episode Notes by 2maggie2, Strudel and local_max: These episode notes are a joy to read. Those three dig deep into the series and speak of foreshadowing. My favorite part is the focus on the Scooby dynamic -Buffy, Xander, and Willow- and how complex and realistic this friendship is.

Okay, here we go. Three fics that got Slay Me Awards in 2010 and one that didn’t, but could have. (Considering how many ficlets fit into that category, I could probably do another whole post. LOL) And one rec for a community that was chock full of wonderful fic.


West of the Moon, East of the Sun by KnifeEdge – a new writer to our fandom, she took us all by happy surprise with her long, plotty Spuffy fic. Based on a fairytale format, it sucks you in and keeps you coming back for more. She had me at “hello”, or, well, okay, the minute Buffy woke up in that dark room with only a bed and a vampire. If you think that means smutty pwpw fic, you are oh, so very wrong! You can find it here

Picspam: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Race!Swap Cast by penny_lane_42.

Summary: gorgeous picspam, searing questions into the racial politics of U.S. television. (already been recced, but deserves to be again!)

Season 7: The Breakdown of Buffy Summers by angearia.

Summary: beautiful, complex look at our heroine in a controversial season.

The Mission is What Matters: Wesley Wyndam-Price by pocochina.

Summary: she made me like Wesley. It was awesome.
