1) Home is Where Your Heart Is (Willow, Xander, Sheila, Ira) by [livejournal.com profile] sandy_s: Another Spuffy legend tries her hand at Willow and once again does it exceedingly well. [livejournal.com profile] sandy_s gives us Willow's last visit with her parents but she also gives us a lovely evocation of the enduring friendship of Willow and Xander. A twofer that's twice as nice for that. This one has a core of sadness and resignation that really resonates. Oh, this one was written for [livejournal.com profile] whichwillow, as are the next two (and The Killer in Me, from my earlier list). That fest really inspires wonderful stories.

Five Fabulous Fics Written By [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip in 2013.

[livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip is a talented writer, a supportive fandom cheerleader, and a force to be reckoned with. (I mean that with 110% sincerity. She rocks!) This year, [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip once again showed her talent and quality and I want to showcase five of my favorite works. She wrote plenty more besides, of course, and you should all put this woman on your to-read-now lists!

1) Discomforting - Willow/Spike (FRAO). In this story, Willow and Spike struggle to live life without Buffy. [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip captures the angst, the internal struggles of both characters. She is able to make this pairing seem believable, and judging from the comments, she was able to entrance readers who normally don't read Spike/Willow pairings. She also writes what could be one of the steamiest sex scenes ever. Yum!

RIP slayerfanfic.com - Top 5

I used to hang out at the now sadly defunct slayerfanfic.com. The site went down without warning and a lot of good stories were lost, but I’ve kept track of some of the people who used to post there. Here are some salvaged 2006 favourites, ranging from comedy to deep introspective, although more of the former than the latter:

Alex Wert’s “Operation: Get Into Buffy’s Pants” is the Buffy/Willow fic to end all Buffy/Willow fics. Irreverent, meta, cute, outrageously funny and just enough over the top to not end up as parody.
Quote: "I used Faith's 'A' material and not so much as a batted eyelash from her. All I got was," insert passable Buffy impression here, "’Hey Wills! Check out this A/C unit I got. Pretty sweet, huh? 2.8 kilowatts and it only cost 200 Euros. Umm, what's a kilowatt?’ I may as well be trying to pick up the Pope."
