[livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip is a talented writer, a supportive fandom cheerleader, and a force to be reckoned with. (I mean that with 110% sincerity. She rocks!) This year, [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip once again showed her talent and quality and I want to showcase five of my favorite works. She wrote plenty more besides, of course, and you should all put this woman on your to-read-now lists!

1) Discomforting - Willow/Spike (FRAO). In this story, Willow and Spike struggle to live life without Buffy. [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip captures the angst, the internal struggles of both characters. She is able to make this pairing seem believable, and judging from the comments, she was able to entrance readers who normally don't read Spike/Willow pairings. She also writes what could be one of the steamiest sex scenes ever. Yum!

2) Thinky Gay Thoughts (FRT) - Buffy/Willow. This story takes place after Willow has come out of the closet to Buffy and Buffy is left alone with her thoughts. This story is believable, insightful, and funny. [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip does a great job capturing Buffy's internal voice.

3. Miscast in the Role of Destiny (FRT-13) - Buffy/Angel. This story was written for the [livejournal.com profile] iwry_marathon and takes a look at Angel's thoughts in the Wish!verse. Again, [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip proves she's the queen of angst by writing a powerfully emotional piece that is both haunting and bleak.

4. In the Dark (the What's a Nice Jewish Girl Like You Doing in a Place Like This remix) (FRT-13) - Willow, Angel. This story explores what might have happened if Willow had gone to LA instead of Oz. [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip taps into a side of Willow that is not often explored by fanfic writers. She explores the pathos of what it means to only be the supporting character. She allows Willow to get mad, to get angry, and to lash out. She also gives some possible evidence towards how Willow's descent in Season 6 could have started. It's a Big Bang fic, but it's split into two parts, so don't let the length deter you!

5. Fistfuls Of Sand (FRT) - Willow, Angel. This is another Willow, Angel friendship fic and it's just as awesome as the other one on this list. This takes place after the events of I Robot, You Jane and [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip captures both characters equally well. It's always wonderful to see the ways Willow and Angel can connect with each other and [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip makes you wish that friendship had been given a chance to develop in canon.

She rocks!

PREACH IT!

And you rock for posting this list. :) All of these are new-to-me except for the second one which I adored when I read it back and June (and how could I have forgotten about it?) I associate Gabrielle with angst, generally, but that fic is SO much fun.

I am genuinely overwhelmed. I have no idea what to say. "Thank you" is a start, but it's hardly enough. I can't tell you what it means to me that you think so highly of my work. Wow. Also, can I thank you again for your support of In the Dark... and all the others as well? You've made my year and it's only January.
