So to prove that I don’t just read Xander-centric fic, here are five that I really like that don’t have a Xander anywhere in sight!

In The Time of Wolves by [livejournal.com profile] valyssia is a brilliant study of Willow’s grief after Joyce’s death. There’s just something about this one that gets right under my skin.

And talking about things getting under your skin – go read [livejournal.com profile] brutti_ma_buoni’s untitled Lilah/Wes ficlet. It’s deceptively gentle, but says a huge amount about these two facing eternity together.

The Trial by [livejournal.com profile] thismaz is a coda to Helpless. This in an excellent insight into Giles’ state of mind in the aftermath of Buffy’s Cruciamentum.

Apt Pupil by Elena B is a great character study of Lindsey MacDonald’s background and the road that took him to Wolfram & Hart.

In Brief Encounter by [livejournal.com profile] shapinglight, Spike runs into Darla at a railway station and discovers something he didn't know about Angelus. What I really love about this story is how much we learn about Darla and Spike's characters as a result of the narrative - it really gives an insight into who they were in the past, who they are at this point in time and what makes them tick. Add in pitch-perfect voices and beautiful evocative detail and you've got a classic to wallow in.

Excellent choices and nice to see a little Lindsey love. He rarely gets mentioned these days.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks so much for the rec. Much appreciated, especially for that story, which I admit, I'm rather fond of.

LOL got this problem myself. What can I say? I'm a Xander-girl to a fault.

I'd only read the last one before, but just read The Trial. Good choices.

Brief Encounter looks particularly appealing, as I've just been reading all those historical fics.
