cmk418: (ATS - Lilah as Fred)
[personal profile] cmk418 posting in [community profile] buffyversetop5
I tend to gravitate to pieces that don't follow the ordinary structure. Here are five of my favorites from this year:

An Alphabet of Fred by [livejournal.com profile] deird1 - A list of Fred's qualities and memories mixed in with Illyria's told from Illyria's point-of-view. A wonderful character study.

Application by [livejournal.com profile] deird1 - Faith deals with the bureaucratic side of the Council while filling out an application for a child-care center for the children of Slayers. This piece consists of the application questions and Faith's responses.

Chao-Ahn's Letter by [livejournal.com profile] gillo - Probably the most straightforward narrative of the five, but a very nice strategy to go more in-depth to Chao-Ahn's life before Sunnydale and her experiences with the Scoobies and the rest of the Potentials.

Speak as Liberal as the North by [livejournal.com profile] deird1 - Poetic look at the Fred-Wes-Gunn triangle through the lens of Shakespeare's "Othello". The last line is a killer.

Who's to Say I'm Not by [livejournal.com profile] me_llamo_nic - Femslash between Buffy and Willow plays out in an IM conversation. Definitely should make readers LOL.

All of these are great, but "Application" had me on the floor...something about the difficulty of a Slayer finding a suitable preschool program is just inherently funny.
