The little gals often have big stories, sadly hidden from the viewer. Fortunately, we have many talented writers who can spotlight them beautifully. Here are a few of the many standouts from 2011:

Lydia, Sunday, Buffybot, Harmony, Vi, Newbie and Future Slayers on Parade! )

2011 was a great year for Spander fics. I discovered [livejournal.com profile] baudown this year. Her writing is super, her character voices are super, and her fics are always a joy to read. Here are five fics I've read and enjoyed of hers.

Season 8 was a wild ride that made mostly everybody at least a little bit queasy, though it ended with a much appreciated whimper. Season 9 started off fairly evenly, though there's probably a bumpy road ahead. Grab your barf bags!

Here are five post-Season 8 #40 fics (and a bonus!) from three of my favorite fic writers that are filling in the blanks, bending canon to their will, and even throwing canon out the proverbial window. And you don't necessarily need to acknowledge the existence of the comics to enjoy them.

I've spent a lot of time this year reccing this story, and now I'm going to rec it again.

In the Morning of the Magicians by [livejournal.com profile] indri, Giles/Ethan, R. [livejournal.com profile] indri is one of the all time greats of the fandom, and this novel length fic shows you why. Set in London in the early 70s, it tells in brilliantly imagined detail of Ripper's first meeting with Ethan Rayne and of their catastrophic raising of Eyghon. The sense of place and period is just wonderful.
