My top favorite fic's of 2006
Dec. 30th, 2006 03:06 pmIn no particular order....
1) Vampire Winter by
shapinglight Het with a wee bit of slash. Hard R in one place.
Summery: It covers events after NFA where we come to see Buffy in her new life in Rome, and where events take an unexpected turn when two shadows from her past make an unexpected appearance.
A truly super read from beginning to end. It covers the events after 'Not Fade Away' and in my humble opinion you couldn't have asked better resolution to the whole 'Spike/Buffy/Angel triangle. Very highly recommended.

2) Manhunter by
sexymermaid AU Slash NC17 WIP
Summery: Someone's killing families. One man has to find him before he loses what matters most, even if it means teaming up with an irritating ex-thief...
Another wonderful outing by this author. Full of action and great plot twists and intrigue. All in all a ripping good read.

3) The grey Area by
shylahmask slash NC17 WIP
Summary: Set sometime after Destiny, goes AU from there. A man takes advantage of Spike's uneasy relationship with Angel.
One of our 'newer kids on the block'
shylahmask is rapidly turning out to be one of our more inventive writers. She has created a several wonderful Spike based tales over the past year, but this one has to be my absolute favorite, for if nothing else her the wonderful creation of Ambrus her main villain of the piece. Who's ability to control all things metal and use it as a way of controlling his captive Spike is just inspiring. Wonderfully dark.

4)Dancing in the Dark by
twilightofmagic Slash NC17 Ripper/Ethan
Summery: It's set in Giles' Ripper days when I think he was a bit of a lad. It's after he's left Oxford when he's taken up with Ethan, but before the tragic events with Eyghon.
I just adore this pairing, which seems so rarely written about these days. Here
twilightofmagic manages to paint a glorious picture of these two young practitioners of the dark arts, and show us how 'magical' their early relationship really was.

5)Brief Encounter by
shapinglight Het NC17 (briefly)
Summery: In Why We Fight, Spike had no idea that Angel had a soul, yet when they met again in Sunnydale in School Hard he was suspicious of him right from the start. Someone has to have told him.
Another wonderful one off from
shapinglight. I know I've mentioned her once already, but I just couldn't miss this superb piece of writing. Not a pairing that I would normally read, but I found this tale of Spike's encounter with Darla on an English railway station just enchanting.

I lost track of Shyla's work and must catch up, but she writes very gripping dark stories.
