One day way back when I made the mistake of clicking on a link to Buffy fan fiction. I'd been a fan for several years by that point, but I'd never really gotten into fic. I was hooked... These are some of the stories that sucked me into the wacky world of fan fiction. If I hadn't discovered them I would have gotten so much more accomplished over the course of the last few of years!
1) Half-Gifts
, By Automatedalice. I found this again a while back with the wayback machine. Listing it is a semi-ethical dilemma; the author hastaken her ball and gone home removed it from the internet. I'm evil and cheated; it's been saved on my hard drive since it was still easy to find! I do think it's one of the single best fan fictions written to date; gorgeous, lyrical, evocative writing. I truly saddened that the author has chosen to pull it from the web.
2) Ten Thousand, By Wisteria
The distance from Kampala to Sunnydale is approximately 10,000 miles. For Spike, it's far greater.
Post-Grave, Rated PG-13, Spike/Buffy, 84683 words. There's a dead link at allaboutspike.com, and I couldn't get the wayback machine to give it to me. It must be out there somewhere! Link fixed! Thanks to
shadowlass!
3) Actions Past, by Dutch Buffy
Actions Past (Spuffy, R) Summary: Sunnydale, 1997. Buffy makes a wish, with consequences...Buffy from the past and Buffy from the future will have to square their destinies and their lovers.
How can you go wrong with time travel? Season 7 and season 2 Buffys are mixed up in time, with thoroughly enjoyable results.
4) Sunday Girl, by Dead Soul
Spike, Drusilla and Sunday in New York City, 1977. Ever wonder where Sunday (BtVS, Season 4, “The Freshman”) came from? Why her fashion sense seems familiar, not to mention her attitude? She tells her story.
Pre-Series, Rated NC-17, Spike/Sunday, Spike/Drusilla, 53886 words.
One of the first fan-fictions I'd seen that made me sit up and take notice.
5) Super Food World, by Valerie X
Spike and Buffy go grocery shopping, with angst and fluff.
Post-Doublemeat Palace, Rated R, Spike/Buffy Funny, sad, and absolutely spot-on characterizations.
ETA: I officially suck at HTML! Thanks to
yourlibrarian for the clue to making a couple of the links work!
ETA, part two: edited to give a working link for Ten Thousand. Hooray!
