Yay for the return of [livejournal.com profile] buffyversetop5. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] petzipellepingo and [livejournal.com profile] yourlibrarian for continuing to host this lovely celebration of our fandom every year.

Since we’re running up to Halloween, here are five stories that make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. This is a mixture of pairings and canon characters.

For All My Pains A World of Sighs by [livejournal.com profile] baudown makes my heart ache at the same time as it gives me chills. This is mainly focused on Spike and his kills and is wonderfully written, and the short section at the end with Xander is haunting and beautiful. This has some slash.

[livejournal.com profile] shapinglight’s Night Off has a special place in my heart because she wrote it after a fandom meet up to visit Highgate Cemetery in London. It was my first ever live-fandom event. Anyway, enough about me, and more about the story. Two boys decide to do a little pilfering from a graveyard on Halloween, but when they run into Spike and Dru having a bit of a night off, they realise it really wasn’t their best idea ever.

Spike and Dru are back in Unwrapping by [livejournal.com profile] brutti_ma_buoni. Spike is looking for a birthday present for Dru and a distraction to his own boredom. This is creepy as hell, and all the better for it.

Dark Horse by wiseacress is set in a dystopian future where vampires and demons rule and humans are a food source. Spike spots a completely unrecognisable and practically non-responsive Scooby at an illegal auction and takes him home. Over time their relationship grows to one of tentative trust until the threat of betrayal pushes Spike to make some drastic plans. This is a classic and still makes me shiver years after I first read it. This is slash.

In The Girl with Kaleidoscope Eyes by Kyra Cullen. Willow sees Tara. This is subtle, beautifully written, haunting, and makes me shiver.

It's always a delight to receive all these wonderful posts from people. I end up not only seeing a lot of works during the time we're open but loading up the eReader for months to come :)

Plus, it's always great to see personal connections like this:
