5 thought provoking character study vids
Nov. 1st, 2019 09:26 pmSo I guess one list of fanvids wasn't enough! Here's another five, each one of which shines an interesting light on a particular character in the Buffyverse cannon.
- Willow ll Control by Frances Bushell. An exploration of Willow's decent into darkness with a note of hope for her recovery at the end.
- Rupert Giles - Hallelujah by gilescandy. A look at the supportive and loving role that Giles played to the various cast members of the show, showing the beauty and heartbreak of his love in particular for Jenny, Buffy, and Willow, but also for all of the Scoobies. Lovely.
- BTVS ll Soldier ll The Mission is What Matters by Frances Bushell. This video really captures the grim, relentless nature of a slayer's reality----and the way Buffy has to keep "soldiering on" even through all the terrible things she faces in the show. Warning, it does use clips from some of the darker moments in the show such as the AR scene in "Seeing Red."
- who are you, really? → angel. by AJWrites. "Who are you, really?" is a bit of a little black dress for fandom videos. It fits almost anyone. Inf fact, there are fantastic videos for Buffy and Spike using the same song. But I liked how the creator used this vid explore Angel's character, especially in AtS, and his troubled connection to his past. A good tribute to both the show and the character.
- Spike || Believer by womanaction. Seriously, my favorite fanvid. I just adore the editing and how well womanaction fit the lyrics and music of the song to the scenes from the show. The vid beautifully traces Spike's evolution from his William days all the way to his role in the finale of Buffy, particularly through his relationships with the women who shaped him.

Date: 2019-11-02 02:51 pm (UTC)It's curious, alright, why certain songs seem to surface frequently for vids. I'm not sure if that speaks more to people's listening patterns or something about the song itself. Although I noticed in your previous post that one of the vidders had used the song because they were dissatisfied with the vids she'd seen with it and dubbed it a remix! So certainly inspiration from other fan vids might pass a song along for one reason or another.
