or something close to a white hat anyway! I'm exhausted so this list may be shortish on descriptions but anything I recommend with Ethan in it will be near and dear to my heart.

1. Absent Friends by il mio capitano. Oh, yeah, awesome. I recently asked if anyone could find this story for me. Basically all I'd recalled was the pub crawl based on The World's End and that Ethan was in it. Turns out it features Giles rather than Xander but given how fond I am of Giles and Ethan together, that was hardly a drawback. This one's more white-hatish rather than an out and out white-hat tale.

2. Trakker's Tarnished is a lovely tale where Rupert and Ethan slowly come together and then work, along with Slayers and witches, to prevent an apocalypse. I think any story I rec will have excellent Ethan and Giles characterizations but I do adore a story where Rupert is in denial and then comes around.

3. riani1's Reflections in a Turning Mirror reminded me of Tarnished with Ethan helping Giles bring in Potentials which makes it one of the key stories that led to the creation of this category. This story has me wanting to read the entire Afterwards series.

4. Another key story in the creation of this category, I've adored NL Rummi's Geometry of Chance since I first read it. Ethan, finding a Watcherless Slayer, thinks he's gotten one-up on Giles by taking her under his wing. He has no idea he's going to come to care for the girl. I rather wanted to have an Ethan working with Slayers category but I don't have quite enough stories.

5. And, of course, antennapedia's Of Old Mystics where Giles rescues Ethan from the Initiative and the two learn they have a destiny and an apocalypse of their own to prevent. Ethan and Giles train a couple of Slayers who are just wonderful characters. I love how everyone interacts in this story.
