So I was feeling lame because I hadn't thought of anything yet and then this idea hit my fancy. I'm a pretty dedicated Spike/Buffy shipper but just to prove that I can embrace variety with the best of them I present:

My Top Five Non-Spuffy Pairing Fics

These are mostly recent as I lost all of my bookmarks in a horrifying hard drive crash on Thanksgiving Day.



In no particular order...

Title: Coming Ashore
Creator’s Name: lillianmorgan
Pairing: Spike/Xander
Rating: R
Warnings: liberal use of the German language in the sake of comedy, also some sex
Why I chose this: This has some excellent characterization and use of language. It's definitely one of lillianmorgan's best. And the framework (alternating between a Season 4 and post-NFA) works very nicely.

Title: Sunshine Part One Part Two
Creator’s Name: euro_fics aka Europanya
Pairing: Spike/Other
Rating: NC17
Warnings: Sex, bodily fluids, cuddling
Why I chose this: Good god, this story is hot! Set during AtS Season 5, it explores how a random human (in this case, one of the dancers at "the Peppermint Stick") with no knowledge of his "condition" would perceive souled Spike. Not just hawtness (although that would be enough) it also has some interesting character reflection on our boy as well.

Title: Unlucky Folk
Creator’s Name: rayne_y_daze
Pairing: Faith/Buffy
Rating: G
Warnings: Serious Slayer Sexual Tension, some angstiness of the longing, pent up variety
Why I chose this: Buffy/Faith is a ship that I've taken an interest in lately. Usually I prefer it post-Chosen, but this wee Season 4 snippet captures so much of the potential there.

Title: You Made Me Forget Myself (You’re Going to Reap Just What You Sow) Part One Part Two Part Three
Creator’s Name: lillianmorgan
Pairing: Spike/Angel
Rating: R/NC17
Warnings: M/M sex, NFA battle scenes, Father/Son bonding (not like that! With Connor), Tenderness
Why I chose this: Because I said, "I do like me some comforty (no real hurt, just comfort and reconciliation) Spangel when Spike tops at long last (flip flopping the power dynamics from the days of Spangelus past). But, y'know..." and then she totally made it happen in such a fabulous, moving way. Recently on metafandom I followed a link to a post where people were debating whether it's "ethically right" to rec fics that were written for you or by your friends, etc. Pshaw, I say, read this fic. :)

Title: All the Sinners Saints
Creator’s Name: amybnnyc aka Amy B.
Pairing: Spike/Faith
Rating: R/NC17
Warnings: Violence, Sex, the Usual *g*
Why I chose this: I admit to not having finished reading all of the posted chapters of this WIP but it's got me intrigued and I have faith in Amy's abilities and so should you. Note: this is Spike and Faith at their ambiguously moralled best. Note the Second: I almost included her Season 5 Spike/Riley fic The Perpetuity of Need but then opted for this one because that one has too much Spuffy (sub)text but it is deliciously messed up so go and read that one too.

Clearly, I have a Spike bias (and after that a Slayer bias...and after that strippers apparently). Ah well. Happy Reading!

Heartily seconding the LM and Euro recs - and I've been meaning to read amybnnyc's story for the longest time. Think I might print it out for the train-ride home for the holidays. Because aren't sex and violence the real meanings of the season?

I absolutely do not mind if you friend me. I do warn you that I'm slightly fandom sluttish (but mostly just BtVS, Firefly and Veronica Mars) and I'm wont to make random musey, nerdy and/or personal posts. I do have a fic only journal called fics_de_femme but I post most of my fic at my personal journal first and that's also where I make all of my recs.

As to the metafandom discussion, seems a bit...hmm. I wonder if anyone's got stats/ideas on the fact that you usually friend people for their fic, so reccing friends could be quite common therefore. Hmmm.

Speaking of Yum, I'm halfway through reading By Way of Pain (http://www.sand-in-my-shoes.com/mirror/By_Way_of_Pain.html) and it's really fantastic so far. Your descriptions are so vivid and it's a fabulous look into Spike's mind AND sense of Eros. That coulda been on this list if it didn't have some Spike/Buffy in it as well as Spike/Dru.
