5 Moving/Moody fanvids
Oct. 28th, 2015 04:22 pmOkay, I'm not exactly sure what to call this category but they're not chipper, that's for sure.
These are all worksafe.
1. Brave New World by Kaydee Falls asks if we are sure that the real world actually is better than the Wish!verse.
2. Quinara's in the dark / sometimes / i hear you gives a great feel of Spike's insane in the high-school basement PoV.
3. Losing Your Memory by Tay Marie has me in tears each time I watch.
4. Aycheb's Scarlet Ribbons: Yeah, I apologize for inflicing this on you right after Losing Your Memory. Also, I think it's awesome she quoted Alice Sheldon (aka James Tiptree Jr.).
5. Laura Shapiro's Transparent: Eeeeee! Amazing Willow character study.

Date: 2015-10-29 05:47 am (UTC)It's somewhat Cordy-centric but fascinating in how it shows that the Wish basically foreshadows so much of what is to come, but also emphasizes the fact that it's a story about storytelling - the episode doesn't end when the protagonist of the episode, a supporting character - Cordy - dies, but when the protagonist of the Buffyverse (Buffy) dies. A story ('verse) cannot continue without it's protagonists. One of the most "meta" fanvids I've seen.
Thank you for this list! I've seen most of these before, including BNW and Scarlet Ribbons; I'm not sure if I'd seen Losing Your Memory before but it had me in tears by the time it got to Tara's death. I've seen a lot of vids that mean to make me feel deeply but this one actually guts me - the song is a perfect choice, and not many vidders pull off a video that length and make it truly compelling the entire time.

Date: 2015-10-29 04:39 pm (UTC)Which is actually another piece of evidence for the "there are multiple protagonists / it's an ensemble / there is no one protagonist" crowd. (Ok, maybe it's only one person who actually believes that but still.)
I can't help but cry when I watch that one.
I've seen so many btvs fanvids, many tragic ones but few that make me cry. I think this vid is an excellent example of the importance of the right piece of music.

Date: 2015-10-30 02:49 am (UTC)I know Dopplegangland is on just about EVERY top ten episode list I see and it's cute and fun and foreshadowy for Willow but I much prefer The Wish. It's got so many layers (down to Giles' sartorial style - foreshadowing his regular garb in S4), VampWillow and VampXander in all their fucked up sadistic glory, the introduction of Anya, foreshadowing Cordy's stupid, senseless death, our first glimpse of a hardened, emotionally dead "General Buffy" (more of a rogue soldier at this point)....
And I guess I prefer angst.
