Five random fics from 2014 that have no real connection other than that they stayed in my head after I'd read them...
baudown has been a very welcome addition to our fandom over the last few years. She has a wonderful command of character and language and a new story from her always makes my day. Basement, 1999 is a lovely slice of Spike, Xander pre-slash in which Spike realises that just because he has a chip doesn’t mean he can’t torture Xander just a little. I really wish she’d write more in this ‘verse.
Staying with Spike and Xander, but on a totally different note,
velvetwhip gave us Blood from a Stone. This is a beautifully drawn portrait of two men united in grief and bewilderment at Buffy’s graveside. This stayed with me for ages after I read it.
brutti_ma_buoni is always incredibly prolific and her contribution to the
spook_me ficathon was A Day’s Work. It’s Halloween, there’s an alien attack – don’t you hate it when that happens – and Faith isn’t happy. I especially like Oz being even more laconic than normal in this one.
Also for
spook_me,
beer_good_foamy gave us The Queen, The Soldier. This is a fairytale with a difference about a slayer who didn’t die young and like all good fairytales it begins with ‘Once Upon a Time....’ Just go read. And I’m embarrassed to admit that when I went back to get the links for these last two, I realised I hadn’t commented yet – must rectify immediately!
Finally, The One Where Sulu has the Sword by
thea_bromine is just delightful, with Xander watching classic Trek and Giles finding his interest piqued in ways that go way over Xander’s head. Thea always gives great Giles and Xander and this is no exception.

Date: 2015-01-05 10:04 am (UTC)And thank you, that's a wonderful thing to say. Reccing is how I first actively participated in fandom before I had the courage to write anything, and it's still a big part of what I love about our fandom. So glad my recs were useful to you - and that reminds me, I really need to update my lists!
