My Top 5 Buffyverse Graphic Makers.

I'm an icon-whore. I have folders upon folders of icons, of all 'ships and characters. I dig 'em. So it was really hard to narrow down my list of favorite icon-makers to just 5, but, well, I tried.


1.

_jems_. An obvious choice. She makes pretty much the prettiest non-text icons EVER. Not that her text-icons aren't brilliant, but she's really good at finding the perfect crop, the perfect screencap, the perfect coloring.


2.

awmp. Again, pretty obvious. I adore Blue, I really do. Aside from her being a totally sweet, completely kick ass person, she makes the most awe-inspiring graphics. She's amazing at the manips. At the animated stuff. At just about everything. Plus: they're funny! Rander as cherubs! JM as a supposed stallion! Bwahahaha.


3.

dtissagirl. Hers were the first icons I can remember stumbling across and saying, "HOLY CRAP WOW." Probably not out-loud, but who knows. She has such a distinct style--always has--that I can pretty much spot her icons anywhere. Her coloring? Some of my favorite, especially because it's so unique. Greens and oranges and hot pinks.

4.

inxsomniax. She's a given. SERIOUSLY. Even if you're not a Spike/JM fan, even if you don't 'ship Spike/Buffy, you have to have at least the tiniest bit of appreciation for the stuff she creates. Everything's always so gorgeous, so well-put together. The way she does text never ceases to amaze and inspire me. She takes a screencap and makes it look like it's NOT a screencap, if that makes any sort of sense. She's just brilliant and fantastic.


5.

mouthfullofdust. I think she makes icons more people can use, since she doesn't really stick to one 'ship or one character. She's all over the place, but in particular the early Buffy seasons. I adore what she does, especially because she can produce so many icons at such a fast, consistent pace. And she's constantly switching up her styles, which is nice to see.

I left off tons and tons of amazing icon makers, believe me. So many talented people in our corner of the fandom world.

What a lovely variety you have there both in styles and tone. I haven't seen that b&w Spike one or the 147 ones before. Great stuff.

Great post -- nice to see a shoutout for the icon makers that brighten LJ daily :> Love the examples you've posted here. I have a bunch of cherished icons by a few of them but liked reading your descriptions as well. One thing I love about some icons is that they'll make you see a scene from canon in a totally different way, whether through humor or cropping and coloring.

There are WAY too many awesome icon-makers out there, and I feel horrible for leaving a lot of my favorites off the list. Gah. Maybe I should've done subdivisions or something, LOL. "My Top 5 Favorite Spuffy Icon Makers", "My Top 5 Favorite Angel Icon Makers", etc.

Oh well.

Heh, I only planned on doing 2 icon posts last year and once I started ended up with like 10 different categories! Of course, I was reccing specific icons, though for Classic Recs I think focusing on the icon makers makes a lot of sense. Some folks have a really long track record.
