Five terrific fics from
summer_of_giles 2013.
The Last Watcher by
shapinglight is Giles/Ethan and a brilliant reminder that sometimes Giles at his most civil is also Giles at his most terrifying. Just lovely.
Talking of Ethan, in
0_ruthless_0’s Of Spiders and Fish, Giles remembers scenes from his past and makes a bet with himself in the present
aadler’s Under the Gun (the Bullets Backed with Bitches' Remix) is also a look at an incarnation of Giles that’s about as far away from the tweedy librarian as you can get. This is a remix and takes the premise of the original story and builds on it beautifully with excellent continuity, a super original touch and a great, ambiguous Giles.
thea_bromine always gives good Giles and she didn’t disappoint this year with This One Now. Post Chosen, Giles acts as comfortator.
Last but by no means least is
il_mio_capitano’s Watcher’s End. It’s raining cats and dogs, the buses are all full and Giles is trying to get home. Then he spots a tube station he doesn’t remember seeing before. This is vivid and compelling storytelling with a wonderfully believable Giles and great OC’s. All in all just a great read.
I struggled to pick just five fics from this year’s
summer_of_giles, so if you didn’t get the chance to catch up with the offerings this year, I’d urge you to go to the comm and just start reading because there’s a ton of stuff to enjoy.
