Top 5 Angel/Xander slash fics of 2005

Ok, so competition was really tough in this category -since A/X is my OTP- and I was teary at only being able to choose 5, but I finally managed to just press the [Update Journal] button despite my guilt!


1. Shadows Across The Heart by Willie J - This is a pretty creepy story wherein an ancient, terrifying evil is unleashed in Sunnydale and takes over the bodies of the scoobies, forcing them to commit despicable acts of violence against one of their own. Confronted by overwhelming odds, Xander flees to L.A to get help from the only people he knows would be willing to help. (The only major squick I can remember is that there's some mpreg)

2. The S-Curve Series by tesla321 - This is a total Xangel schmoop-fest, but it's my guilty pleasure of the year and I wait with bated breath for each new installment! Trust me, you'll love the crazy hijinks and revelry at this All Human, sexually liberated/promiscuous (really, too many pairings to shake a stick at, though not as explicit as you'd probably like) Sunnydale High and you'll get a kick out of the great cameos by so many of your favourite buffyverse characters (major and minor) and the fact that, finally, someone's given Xander a decent family life.

3. The Rodeo Series (Rodeo, Luck of the Draw, and Miles to Go) by crazydiamondsue This Cowboy!fic was the first I'd ever read and I blame Sue for my newfound kink! Maybe, if we ask her nicely *cough*hint*cough*, she'll keep writing in this 'verse.

4. Just Call Me Angel by spikendru I did say I had a brand, spankin' new cowboy kink, did I not? No, really, this fic has great characterizations and the perfect, loping pace...go see for yourself.

5. The 'Just' Series (Just Begun, Just Dance, and Just Us) by suki_blue - Watch as Xander and our favourite brooding dork!vampire fumble amusingly through hooking up, hanging out, and coming out to their nearest and dearest.

I actually only read the middle part of the series, Luck of the Draw but the characterization was great. I wanted to catch up on the other parts but it seems like the farther into the year the less time I had to read.

It's a great time of year for cowboy kink though ;> And the recs have a nice variety to them, too.

Definitely, read the other two when you get a chance, in fact, I'm pretty sure the middle one is the longest of the three, so they shouldn't take much time. And really, any time of year is a good year for Cowboy!Kink (even when I'm not going to see Brokeback tomorrow *squees*).

Yeah, I wasn't really trying for variety, but I'm such a Xangel!whore that I'll pretty much read (and usually like) it all, LOL.

Ooh, good stuff - I don't think I've EVER read this pairing, actually, except in stories with a different primary pairing. One of those has got me quite sold on the idea though, so I think I'll check these out! Thanks for sharing.

I've read all of these. I think I've read every BtVS and Angel fanfic out there. I just can't find anything new.
