yourlibrarian: Angel and Lindsey (Huh by glimmergirl)
[personal profile] yourlibrarian posting in [community profile] buffyversetop5
My problem is that out of my fic-reading-time-pie the biggest slices are S/X, which leaves a lot smaller slices for everything else. Personally I’d like to solve this by having a bigger pie but RL isn’t very cooperative in this respect. So I ended up having one big slash category because I probably don’t have enough items for the various individual characters. But each one of these fascinated me in some way and just had to be recced.

(1) Bent Justice by [livejournal.com profile] toobusytowrite - NC-17 – This was that rarest of birds – a slashfest with plot. This story has a variety of threads that are wound about each other until the last 4 chapters or so. It’s a long fic compared to most and I was very impressed that the author could keep it interesting for that length of time. It’s Spangel but there are a whole host of characters who make an appearance in this human AU, and it was downright fun for me to see them appearing one by one in this universe. I’m glad I came across it as a WIP because taking on a long story can be a hard thing to squeeze into a busy schedule. But as soon as I read it, I was eagerly awaiting the updates to this as they spilled out.

(2) Something That You Learn on a Tightrope - by [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy - R – Post-NFA, Gunn and Wesley are roaming the country, following up on the Black Thorn’s contacts, and pulling themselves together in the process. This is the only Wes/Gunn I’ve read this past year and it’s not all that slashy but I did find it an interesting look at some of the issues they could be left with if they survived post-NFA.

(3) Vendredi Noir - by [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan - NC-17 – I have to admit that I’ve read maybe 2 other Angel/Lindsey fics ever but I am still willing to bet that this one ranks right up there with other fabulous looks at this pair. This seemed so on the money to me about how things would go, really go, between these two that I’ve become curious to read other takes because I can’t imagine it being any other way. Fair warning though, there is not an ounce of schmoop here and things get a bit ugly between them. But when didn’t it?

(4) Detour by [livejournal.com profile] tgray - Mature – Spike and a stranger both have a little change of luck. I found this dark and perfunctory and much the way I would expect it to be given the circumstances. Very similar in tone somehow to lillian’s piece above.

(5) Consonance - by [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 - Mature - JM/VK – I love the way words are used here. It’s just a moment in time but it has a wonderful pacing to it that carries you along.

And Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

What a great list! I've been thinking about #5 lately, well, er Connor/Spike so this could make some interesting reading. And #2 also seems very timely.
BJ must be one of the best fics of the year ;)
Thank you too for the rec! No schmoop, that made me laugh...

Thanks for the links! I'm sure I'll find something I enjoy here. LM's is the only one I've read, I think.

I haven't read the rest, but I have read Bent Justice and I felt like it just set a standard for narrative story. It was like the most wonderful and gripping story that just happened to be hot spangel. I think I need to reread that one again and I'm really going to enjoy going through this community and finding these lists.
