I was trying to think of an original category and came up with this, but it's possible that at least one of these has been recced already and I missed it. If that's the case it will have to be 5 Post-NFA fics that I enjoyed in 2005.
Item Title or Description: 'The Big Easy'
Creator’s Name: Lady Wenham
Rating: PG-13 for language
Link: http://grip-of-grace.com/btvs/thebigeasy1.html
Why I chose this: I love the atmosphere and setting of this fic and the way the hurricane (written before Katrina) works as metaphor for Buffy and Spike's relationship at the time. I also like the slightly unusual take she has on that relationship and the way it might have gone post-NFA.
Item Title or Description: 'A Day in the Life'
Creator’s Name:
st_salieri
Rating: R
Link: http://www.echonyc.com/~stax/Buffy/salieri/dayinthelife.html
Why I chose this: The author's summary is "one day and one hundred forty five years in the life of Spike" and I can't describe it better than that.
st_salieri is one of my absolute favourite fanfic authors and I devour her fic whenever she posts . This is hugely atmospheric, beautifully written and deeply sad.
Item Title or Description: 'Armadillo'
Creator’s Name:
stultiloquentia
Rating: Probably PG-13 for language
Link: http://www.sand-in-my-shoes.com/stultiloquentia/foolishwords/armadillo.html
Why I chose this: This one's a post-NFA Spuffy treat. Oz brings Buffy a mystical musical instrument and Buffy and Spike work through some issues. It's witty, it's fun, but the issues are ones that need to be dealt with and don't have easy answers.
Item Title or Description: Hark the Herald Demons Sing
Creator’s Name:
sylviavolk2000
Rating: No idea. R??
Link: http://members.shaw.ca/sylviavolk/Herald.htm
Why I chose this: This one just creeps in as it was posted 25.12.05 *g*. Post-NFA, but no Spike. This is Illyria...and Andrew, who have a Christmas encounter with some unusual demons, and to say more would probably spoil it. Sylvia's prose is as gorgeous as ever and she writes a wonderful Illyria trying to make sense of the strange world in which she finds herself.
Item Title or Description: 'Full Circle'
Creator’s Name:
_tiana_
Rating: R
Link: http://community.livejournal.com/summer_of_spike/2005/08/23/ This doesn't seem to be up on the author's website so the link is to the page on
summer_of_spike
Why I chose this: Another post-NFA Spuffy fic. Buffy is on a journey and spends it looking back on her relationship with Spike. This fic just pleases me. I like
_tiana_'s thoughtful, grown up Buffy looking back honestly on her past and the final scene is a total treat.

The last is one of those many SoS postings I fully intend to go back through when I get the chance
I know! I have the same problem. I've read about half of it now, but heaven knows when I'll get to the rest.

Date: 2006-01-28 09:34 pm (UTC)Thanks too for reminding me of the last fic; I thought I'd read it and indeed I had and it brought back all the lovely memories of it.
The 3rd and 4th I haven't read yet so that's just great. Yay new fic! :)
