My Top 5 Spike/Buffy fics of 2005
Jan. 28th, 2006 11:32 amSo those of us that read S/B know that there is quite a lot out there! So I've tried to make this list something like My Top 5 S/B of 2005 that made me sit up, think and reassess the 'ship. Hopefully that works! :)
Item Title or Description: “Breaking All the Rules”
Creator’s Name:
femmenerd
Rating: NC-17

Why I chose this: Girl!Spike/Buffy. We all know that Spike is a very adaptable character, but what I enjoyed about this, as well as the amazing hotness and the wonderful imagery, was how the author played with Spike's gender identity in such an interesting and plausible way.
Item Title or Description: “Epiphanies”
Creator’s Name:

Rating: G

Why I chose this: This fic investigates dreams, memories and thoughts by way of a lyrical and haunting style of writing the pairing. It is really interesting to see them caught up in the metaphysical when usually they are so physical and present. Very haunting and memorable.
Item Title or Description: “Near Misses”
Creator’s Name:
quinara
Rating: PG-13
Link: http://community.livejournal.com/seasonal_spuffy/53650.html
Why I chose this: Painful, beautiful and stunning, one of the most memorable S/B fics of the year for me. What made it resonate most was how the author took their relationship in Season 7 and investigated it, flip-flopped it and placed it in a world where there can only be the fight. Very moving.
Item Title or Description: “Smoke and Mirrors”
Creator’s Name:
rikki_oko
Rating: NC-17

Why I chose this: Wonderful Spike and Buffy characterisation, particularly in that space and time, and well-written too. But what I enjoyed most was that while this story was set in Season 4 it seemed to resonate with all the seasons' worth of their relationship.
Item Title or Description: “Unfinished Business”
Creator’s Name:

Rating: NC-17

Why I chose this: Evocative and well-written AtS 5 Spike/Buffy. And did I mention hot? Yes, hot. And hot. Everything that works so well in the pairing is in this fic and how. Plus Angel too. Awwwww.
