Top 5 things that I just like and think are fantastic including ficlet tables, icons and hand-drawn art.


1. altyronsmaker's Xander tablet. Begun in 2005 and recently finished, this is a thorough and moving exploration of the character Xander, his many possible loves, his many sides, from someone who loves the character. Very moving take on some cannon events. here. Rating mostly G, but yes, some NC 17 as well.

2. toobusy2write hasn't done as much with her table as Altyronsmaker, but this entry was stellar here S/?, dark ficlet, NC 17 slash.

3. myfeetshowit's icons here. Writers who make icons fascinate me. I think there is a story in what they create if they also possess the talent to make icons.

4. Favorite hand-drawn art of 2005 is tough. I went through a lot of things I'd saved that is the work of friends. Extraordinary Cordelia works and so on. Finally I had to say this is my favorite for the year. A beautiful work by velvet_virago here No nude parts, but implied intimacy. Spike/Xander.

5. Like frimfram and myfeetshowit, lit_gal has an amazing extra talent for graphics. Here is a collection of her icons--mostly from 2005, I believe. here

Hee, I've also saved some of my cobbled categories for (near) last!

That's an interesting effect on thos icons in #3, and apparently I missed that fic so thanks for pointing it out. lit_gal has quite the collection! I think velvet_virago is one of the very few folks I've seen here who does pencil and ink artwork.

I am fascinated by the tablet idea. How did this come about? I hadn't heard of them before.

The tablets seem to have been some kind of challenge thing that showed up over the fall? I can't quite remember, but you would take a certain character or slash pairing and you'd do a ficlet for each mood or word. Its not unlike drabbles, only they are obviously longer. I've followed certain writers as they've done these and found it a most enjoyable experience. Currently I'm following a very hot Angelus/Spike one, but it debuted in 2006. :)

This is a great list, such variety. I'm so impressed by velvet_virago's work. That's stunning.
And that tablet is really amazing. So much time and effort. I really enjoy it when someone puts so much thought and consideration into a character they love.

Yes, I went and printed that one out a while back on fine paper. I hope to frame it for my new condo sometime.

velvet_virago just stuns me consistently with her works. All the stuff she did for you for Kept, and those pieces she did for lit_gal's Beautiful Broken was awe inspiring. Many pieces left me in tears.

I agree. Velvet is one of the most magical people I've ever seen. She gave the spander ship some really beautiful gifts.
