Why I chose this: A very dark fic that explores the line between Angel and Angelus and which intrigues Wesley the most. Set in a moment where Wesley wants to help but also to hinder, the oppositions and contrasts really make this fic.

Why I chose this: Do you know when you read a fanfic and you’re at a loss simply at where to begin describing how wonderful it was? This is one of those fics. Lyrical, haunting and ornate writing that captures a Wes haunted by a figure too close to his heart. Wonderfully dark, but also redemptive and uplifting.

Why I chose this: For a relationship that is often about violence and who dominates who, this fic is vitally different and fresh. For Wes and Angel suffer through the upheavals of learning to love (both filial and romantic). Emotive, engaging and uplifting writing and a structure, too, that I enjoyed very much. And a really interesting perspective on Roger Wyndham-Pryce.

Why I chose this: So often, I have imagined the moment in Origin where Wesley discovers the truth about all that has been kept from him to be one of disgusted deep betrayal and fury. But, this fic convinced me of an alternative. A really interesting and well-written exploration of the Wesley and Angel relationship in Season 5, with an unexpected (at least for me!) ending that made me want to alter my opinion! There’s also a sequel that’s highly recommended too.

Why I chose this: A fantastically well-written fic, with some amazing concepts and ideas that have left me pondering for much longer than the reading of the story. Excellent characterisations of Wesley and Giles, and an exceptional OC that I enjoyed very much too.

I've only read two of these authors, but I've read Voices and it is an amazing story. You notice some fics get reced in a lot of different categories, just because they were so haunting? I think that's one of them. :)

Meeeeeeep! So many good fics to read. Sigh, I am already so behind on BT5. I need to step it up and get in here and start marking down fics to read and commenting to all of the lovely posters. I fear with my school work I'm going to fall even further behind, sigh.

Your recs all sound very intriguing. Most notably In a Handful of Dust. Your description of it really captured my attention. And I simply must read some of twilightofmagic's fic. I think you've only recced me her about a thousand times. And yay! for Giles getting some play, I think it will be interesting to see how she plays them off each other. Thanks for sharing! :D

In a Handful of Dust is wonderfully atmospheric. I got to the end of it was just like 'woah'. Good writing breeds my ineloquence!

Yes exactly, most of these are later canon if not post-NFA. Which should in theory be a perilous time for Angel and Wes, and yet each story is quite different.

Oh you're very welcome. Very happy to help. I've also done a Wesley gen-ish list and I'm going to be doing a Wes/Lilah one too. You could also have a hunt around via the tags, which should be all working :) We seem to have been having a fair variety of Wes lists.

I always meant to ask you if you'd done a phenomenal amount of research for that story, or whether you just tapped your resources. I was always very intrigued with the ideas you came up with in each chapter.
