This "gen fic" category was a little more clear than the last one, I thought. Fics that are mostly focused on one particular character.


Title: Blood Types

Summary/Sample: Some people taste different to Angel. She had done with men, with fathers, the Father, Him. What she had really wanted was a son. Title: The First Few Steps

Summary/Sample: Angel deals with a more human kind of problem than he's used to. It was harder to do than it sounded, admitting that he had a problem. When you were a monster who had become a champion who had become a human - who had become an alcoholic - things were even more complicated.

Title: In Walked Luck
Author: lillianmorgan
Rating: R
Character: Spike
Summary/Sample: Spike, pre-series, in Germany. There is one guy, though, who comes in too many times to be a tourist passing through, and while he’s not here often, you think probably it’s because of the way he looks, like a neon sign for rebel, that catches the eye.

Title: A Dance With Death
Author: alwaysjbj
Rating: PG
Character: Spike
Summary/Sample: Pre-series - finding the Chinese slayer. Rather, he was driven with a need, a burning desire to find this girl, this human whose sole purpose was the destruction of his kind.

Happy to rec it! It was a great story and anyone who missed it should read it. In going through stories I had bookmarked, that one stood out to me as one I remembered really enjoying.

Another great list! Thanks so much for reminding me about girlpire's fic, which I just thought captured Spike & Angel's relationship really well. You know, that moviequoteminis turned out some great stories, I sometimes wish the commenting had been a bit higher! alwaysjbj's fic was almost like a dance in the way it moved too. I hadn't read tkp's two, but my goodness that first one is a brilliant concept! Just a gorgeous idea.
And thanks so much for the mention once again. I'd've to say that's my favourite story I wrote last year, everything seemed to gel on it, so I'm kinda chuffed it got a mention. Even though I'm blushing furiously too!

Yay! I totally agree about MQM, there've been some great ones, but as a whole it hasn't been much noticed.
Oh, Blood Types was really amazing. It blew me away.

Isn't it though? I absolutely love alwaysjbj's writing style, and I think Spike is one of her strongest talents. That story in particular stood out to me as really capturing everything we know of pre-series Spike.
