Sneaking in while I have a few minutes spare, since I managed to make a list! I wanted to include Three Deep, but I didn't want to lose any of the other fics, so it can go in its own seperate category as 'Superb Virtual Season'!
But onto the recs. These are all long(ish) fics that I've enjoyed during the year and that everyone should read. :)
Fallen Debris by
jenjojen (Complete, Spuffy, post-NFA, PG).
Why I chose this: A wonderful, sweet, realistic and utterly adorable story of what might have happened if Spike had shanshued after NFA. Spuffy of course, but the story takes its time to get there. Anyone who ships Spike and Buffy should read this. Oh, I should maybe mention that this is a William-fic since Spike loses his memory.
The Other Side of the Tracks by
frimfram (WIP, Fanged Four, pre-series, NC-17).
Why I chose this: I'm sure it's been rec'd already, but I had to include it. Dark, delicious and achingly well written, this is a Fanged Four fic to shout about from the rooftops! And it has Arthur Conan Doyle. What's not to love?
The Center (Complete, Spuffy, post-NFA) by
thedeadlyhook. Sequel to Does It Have To Mean Something (WIP, Spuffy, post-NFA), which is a sequel to The Dead Walk (WIP, Spike, Illyria, Connor; post-NFA) which is a sequel to Dirty Back Road (Complete, Spuffy, S6). Some of these NC-17.
Why I chose this:
thedeadlyhook is a wonderful story teller, and her characters leap off the screen, just like they did on the show. And this collection of fics is very clever in that although it’s a series, they can all be read independently.
Mortal wounds by
treacle_a (WIP, Spuffy, PG, post-NFA).
Why I chose this: This is one of the alltime best post-NFA fics. Incredibly wellwritten it centers around Buffy, Spike and The Immortal, who is so much more than just charming. It gets very dark indeed, but you’ll devour the whole thing in large gulps, then pray that she soon writes more.
Cloak of Mist by
speakr2customrs (Seriously pre-series, PG, complete).
Why I chose this: It was written for
watchersdiaries and is set in the year 1014 AD on the Isle of Man. A young girl is called as Slayer, because soon there will be need for someone to stop the darkness that’s coming... This is such a fabulous fic, with original characters that sparkle and engage. If you never steer away from your usual pairing/fic-type, let this be an exception.
But onto the recs. These are all long(ish) fics that I've enjoyed during the year and that everyone should read. :)

Thanks for the ratings, descriptions etc

Date: 2005-12-28 10:11 pm (UTC)We do indeed! And 'Cloak of Mist' is a wonderful read - it'll make a rainy day very bright. Also very nearly original fiction, although the way Speakr describes the Council at the time makes SO much sense. It's truly wonderful.
And
I saw other people doing ratings etc, and thought it was a great idea. :)

Date: 2005-12-30 08:34 pm (UTC)One little tweak to the timeline, though - "The Center" actually goes between "Dirty Back Road" and "Does It Have to Mean Something?" It's confusing, I know, especially since I haven't finished DIHTMS yet. But I'm amazed you remembered "The Dead Walk," since I haven't finished that either! (And yep, that's where it goes, before DIHTMS. Someday, all of this will make sense!)

Date: 2005-12-30 08:41 pm (UTC)Really? I can't think of a way to ask how that works without spoiling anyone who might accidentally be reading this, but that honestly makes very little sense from what I remember. But I can certainly amend the post accordingly!
And 'The Dead Walk' was the first thing of yours that I read and I'm still waiting for you to update! You just write them all so well! :)
