elisi: Living in interesting times is not worth it (Spoilers by hundredsquared)
[personal profile] elisi posting in [community profile] buffyversetop5
I was going to do this last year, but time ran away from me. But since I think it's a rather good idea, I'll try this year instead. I'm going to stretch the rules a little, but hope that the mods will forgive me!

My idea is very simple: I'll rec LJers who've not posted for at least a year, and (to try to keep within the rules) point to one work of theirs each. Sadly, my list hasn't changed from last year. Although originally my list was going to include [livejournal.com profile] frimfram, except when she mothballed her LJ she flocked everything, fic included. :( Ah well, it's not like I didn't have plenty to choose from as her replacement.

1. First of all, [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan, who was one of the founders of this comm, and exceedingly active in fandom. She also happened to write lots of lovely fic, all of which you can find in her memories. (Incidentally, she was the one to introduce me to the idea of S/B/A - an idea I took to with gusto as I'm sure you know. *g*) I shall point out this fic specifically, because there are not enough fics about Lorne.

The Misty Isle. (Post-NFA, G, Spike, Illyria, Lorne. Angst.)

2. [livejournal.com profile] calove. If you have never read her, then do not delay any longer. There are links to all her fic on the sidebar of her LJ, or you can use her memories. People might be familiar with 'Five Stages of Grief', so - although that is a wonderful fic - I shall instead rec these six ficlets joined by a common place.

On Parliament Hill (William - Spike - through the years.)

3. [livejournal.com profile] ladywenham. I was lucky enough to be around before she vanished - her LJ was a fun and engaging place, and she always got a million comments. (And rightly so!) Thankfully her fic is still up on The Spuffy Realm. I shall mention this story, a wonderful (and very symbolic) Spike/Buffy story. (No really. Everything is a metaphor.):

The Big Easy (Spike/Buffy, post-show.)

4. [livejournal.com profile] stir_of_echoes. This lovely lady did vids, fic, picspams (for more of her stuff, go looking through her tags & memories - esp. look out for her Spike picspam from Chosen...), so there was a ton to choose from, but there was never any doubt in my mind what to choose. Whenever I hear Spike's "There was that one time [Angel and I were intimate]" this is the fic I think of. Set post-Destiny it is utterly gorgeous, digging down into Spike and Angel's dark past and making them move beyond it, and she manages to take one of the most ridiculous lines ever uttered and turn it into an absolute suckerpunch.

Lament for the Dead (Spike/Angel, R.)

5. [livejournal.com profile] spikeylover. Oh [livejournal.com profile] spikeylover. Once upon a time she was one of *the* vidders, and now even her website is gone... *sigh* Thankfully I managed to save quite a few of her vids, which is where I'm going to bend the rules, 'cause I've uploaded them all. I shall however just talk about one of them.

Ghost of a Rose (wmv. 20.6 MB)

This is quite simply the single best Dru vid I've ever seen. I sort of can't imagine not knowing it. It manages to capture Drusilla absolutely exquisitely - from innocent girl, to dark temptress, to the ghost that's always present to her sire and her childe... Promise me you'll watch it? (And the song is beyond perfect... lyrics here.)

And here's the rest... (All wmv format btw.)

Best of Spike (The Top 100 Spike scenes, as voted for by fans. 21.6 MB)
The Lucky Ones (Spike/Buffy. 10.6 MB)
Hallelujah (Spike. Beautiful, but angsty. 12.6 MB)
The Grinch (Spike/Angel. Very silly. 7.9 MB)
One Way (Spike/Buffy. Funny. 14.3 MB)
The Killer in Me (Spike, Slayers. Dark. 8.4 MB)
Green (Spike. Sad, but hopeful. 10.2 MB)
Wedding Bell Blues (Spike, Buffy + Happy ending! 7.2 MB)

Please let me know if there are any problems, or if any of the uploads run out.

You're forgiven. And yeah, there's a lot of beautiful work out there from people who have slipped away.

I adore [livejournal.com profile] spikeylover's Hallelujah and am wildly fond of [livejournal.com profile] calove's Night Swimming.

Excellent choies, thanks for sharing.

Hmm. Fics that made you laugh that you re-visit from time to time?

You're very welcome. I rec so much that it's a joy for me to read fics rec'd by someone else. *bounces*

This is a wonderful idea to rec people that are missed.
Your list is great and Calove's writing always went straight to my heart and inspired deep emotions. "Parliament Hill" is one of the most memorable portrayal of Spike/William.
Lillianmorgan was the first author to make me enjoy ensemble fics.
Spikeylover and Stir_of_echoes 's vids are things of beauty (Goodbye my lover..do you remember?)
And Ladywenham 's tales , I've saved them all.

This is a really great idea, to rec people who have been gone. A lot of the old writers get lost in the shuffle if they aren't writing anymore.

Again, thanks for doing this. Great idea for a list!

Honestly, I don't have any time. LOL I have four papers to write today but I did do a huge C/A Halloween rec list on my LJ. I just can't narrow it down to five recs for here. I might try later tonight after I get some writing done.

Eeeep! Well, then. I will make a point to go check out your LJ. I have no idea how I missed that.

Good luck on your papers, sweetie.
