Top 5 Broken!Angel Spangel Fics

These fics revolve around the premise that Angel is in severe physical and/or mental distress. I didn't actually plan on making it all Spangel, but Spike insisted on running to the rescue, so the list just got even more specific on its own. Make sure to check each fic for warnings, because there is definitely some mature subject matter involved in most of these stories.


1. Reality Check by Jenny
Poor Angel has found true happiness and even though it's a lie with dire consequences, Angel is too world-weary and broken down to care. To save him, Wesley and Spike must figure a way to lure Angel away from his perfect fantasy and back to his everyday hellish reality. This is a great long fic handled by the master of all things Spangel. Really, if you haven't read Jenny, you're missing out on one of the true gems of the genre, so if you like this one, you may as well block-off a chunk of time so that you can squee over the rest of the bunch.

2. Songs of Heaven Series by Vix -
Add untold years of rape and torment, Spike, scoobies, visions from TPTB, the stress from working at Wolfram and Hart, and a perfectly-timed temptation by an old, powerful, and alluring first love and you get '[Angel] on the verge of a nervous breakdown' and a truly twisted and enthralling piece of work that will have you begging for more of this series! Read the warnings on this one because if you can't deal with non-con, you might want to skip it.

3. I Call him Spike by rudemuchness
By the time we catch up with Angel in this piece, he's so very broken that he the ONLY pieces of himself he can recall are Spike, a woman, and a nameless baby. He's in a very bad place and I don't want to spoil the rest because putting the pieces together is a large part of the journey. Needless to say, this fiction is the most graphic of the bunch as it includes, character death, disfigurement, and graphic descriptions of torture and rape, so tread here only if you can stomach that sort of thing. (I don't know if the last parts are in her memories yet, so once you've finished, root around in her journal for the latest bits because chapter 10 is not the end, by a long shot)

4. Marigolds by shinodabear -
What if Angel survived NFA physically but 'not quite right' in the head and Spike were the only one left for babysitting duty?

5. Midas by fuckedifiknow -
So, maybe drinking Hamilton's blood wasn't the smartest move Angel ever made...
