Minor Character Melange

Don’t you just love those random, seemingly inconsequential walk-on characters? Sometimes they become regulars (Harmony, Jonathan), sometimes they show up again a couple more times (Ethan Rayne, Sandy the vampire/victim from Doppelgangland), or maybe they just go on with their “lives” (Sheila from School Hard, my personal favorite). Don’t you want to know more about them? Now you can, with these delightful, mostly canon, fill-in-the-blank back-stories.

Note: I’m putting in multiple links to each story, because of the dreadful disappearing link issues that are going around these days. Also, Spike usually makes an appearance in these stories, because that’s how I roll found them.

Bit Parts (or, How Spike Got Himself a Date) by Mint Witch (mintwitch), Hard R, 4 chapters, BtVS season 6
Spike’s nameless date to Xander’s wedding gets a real story here, all from her very lively POV. She soon discovers that they go back farther than either of them realized. Oh, and according to the show credits, her name is “Tarantula”.

Hotel Lavear by Indri (indri), PG13, One shot, BtVS season 3
The Chaos Demon is the only guy in the Buffyverse that can rival Spike for the hopeless romantic title belt. His story is a tragic but dignified one. He fell in love with a beautiful vampire girl down in Mexico Argentina, and his life will never be the same.

I Was Made For Loving You Baby by Speaker-to-Customers (speakr2customrs), PG13, 7 chapters (which may be continued at a later date), AU BtVS season 6
I am not Buffy. Who am I? The Buffybot becomes self-aware. You’d think that wackiness would ensue, wouldn’t you? You’d be only partially right, as this story contains a serious look at self-determination. With a fair smattering of kitten poker and whatnot.

(In)Discretion by thatotherperv, NC17, One shot, BtVS season 5
Lydia Chalmers, Watcher, attempts to get some material from the source to “fill in some holes” in her thesis on William the Bloody. Spike is happy to oblige.

Not A One-Night Stand by slaymesoftly, R, One shot, BtVS season 6
Another stellar appearance by Spike’s date to Xander’s wedding. This time with amusing POV alternating between Spike and “Tarantula”.

Glad you like it. I'm starting to wonder, though, does "classic" mean "gone"? Since I didn't start reading until 2006 or 2007, I'm not really sure what counts, but there are probably authors from 10 years earlier that I've never found. Poor little Joss'd things...

By the way, the best Russian-language BtVS fic *EVER*, Business Trip (http://www.mydearangel.ru/fanfic/komandirovka.htm) is written from Tarantula's POV. (just sayin :)))

Hee! You'll have fun with "Bit Parts"! The writer is smarter than me, so I don't entirely understand the parting shot line (which contains science!) but the overall story is just super.

I am so bad with names. I remember reading a nifty Tarantula fic some time back and I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of these. Or if the Lydia fic I remember was this one, too. But I don't know whether to snort or aww for the poor Chaos Demon :D

The beauty of this fic is that you can snort and awww! There's another diverting Lydia fic by nautibitz, but I really can't get enough of them. One of the fun things about thatotherperv's version is the links to her "thesis" and before & after photos of the actress. It's multimedia!

Rare pairings and minor characters are my bread and butter, so I'm all over this, baby. The only one here that I've read is (In)Discretion, which I adored, so I'll definately be checking these new ones out.
