I have read innumerable drabbles this year, and I've enjoyed a great many of them, so this is not so much a favorites list as it is a list of five drabbles that struck me and that I think deserve more attention than they've gotten.

1) She Could Love Him by [livejournal.com profile] lilbreck: The author is more well known for her pictorial rather than her literary efforts and that's a shame, because she's one heck of a talented writer! I don't normally read Cordelia/Xander fic, but this one is simply oustanding, using sex to illuminate character in a way that is both deft and delicate. A truly outstanding short work.

2) Challenge in a Can Short by [livejournal.com profile] cosmosmariner: This is a work by an author who rarely writes anything, only posts in her own LJ and at fanfiction.net, and who is far less well known than her talent decrees she should be. This is, as far as I know, the only fic she has written that mentions the Spike/Angel ship. It's a very fine drabble with some lovely anger and angst!

3) Numb by [livejournal.com profile] emeraldswan: Emmy's a writer who never seems to get her due, as far as I'm concerned. This drabble is a lovely, angsty little character study of Spike post-NFA. Read it, then wander around her site and read her other fine tales. You'll love her work as much as I do!

4) And All Our Regrets Shall Then Be Forgotten by [livejournal.com profile] viciouswishes: This is a lovely, opaque bit of Willow/Angel written by a writer with a style all her own. She's always a worthwhile read, and this drabble certainly shows that.

5) Feral Angel by [livejournal.com profile] txrabbit: She always writes sharp, affecting short works, and this glimpse of a feral Angel just out of Hell is no exception. It's here and gone, leaving you with a tantalizing vision that leaves you satisfied and wishing for more at the same time.

This list is so far from complete that it's not even funny, so expect some sequels! I love drabbles and there are many authors on the list of worthies in my mind!

Hee, a category I can actually indulge in right away! Am popping over to them now.

That's the great thing about drabbles they're easily ingestible (never mind the writing which can be anything but!). And the ones that stick out do for just the reasons you've listed.
I haven't read any of these, so I'm looking forward to doing so :)
