snickfic: (Buffy desert)
[personal profile] snickfic posting in [community profile] buffyversetop5
I love a good post-apocalyptic scenario. I think partly it's the 'extreme circumstances' part, which allows for all sorts of interesting relationships and alliances, not to mention hurt/comfort. Partly it's the whole survival scenario - I love reading about that kind of thing, even though I, personally, want to sleep in my own bed every night. And partly it's just that sometimes I want some Doom and Gloom with my corn flakes, yanno?

The Last Summer, by Annie Sewell-Jenkins
Spike/Buffy; NC-17
More mid- than post-apocalypse, Buffy and Spike find each other in Melbourne and take cold, bitter comfort as they wait for the end of the world. There is no hope here, only harshness, but it's the good kind of harshness.

Let the World Spin, by Wesleysgirl
Spike/Dawn, Xander/Wes; NC-17
So, yeah, I love how in such extreme circumstances, people group together in ways that would never otherwise. Hence me, diehard Spike&Dawn gen lover, reccing this post-S5 road trip saga of survival with Spike/Dawn at its center.

As Time Goes By, by Yahtzee
Wes/Fred, Angel/Buffy, and past Angel/Cordy
Out of all the Hyperions in all the world... This is about what our girl Cordelia does to survive in time of war. Long, plotty, ultimately hopeful, with appearances by almost everyone you could name.

Only Game in Town, by [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4
Spike, Angel; post-NFA
The world's gone to pot, but a vamp can still find a poker game to keep himself amused. Short, but worth it for the last line alone - what awful irony.

This Weary World Rejoicing, by Annakovsky
Xander, ensemble
Christmas at the keep, after the apocalypse. Less with the rejoicing and more with the weary, this fic still manages to strike a chord of hope. Followed up by the Spike/Willow-ish Out of This Stony Rubbish.
