My favorite AU slash fics of the year.

I love AU fics when done well. These are all very different. They are all dark!slash. Some I've reced before, some not. Please enjoy, and I'd be interested in hearing what you think!

*Some of these you may not consider precisely AU, but let's say they have 'world building' elements even if they don't precisely fit that category.


1. Bent Justice by toobusy2write. Spike is an undercover agent out to crack a drug ring in prison. Angel is the dark, dangerous prisoner who runs the block. Fireworks! AU human spangel NC 17, status: complete.

2. Beautiful Broken by lit_gal. Spike finds Xander in a horrible state, broken into a sexual submissive. They evolve a unique and beautiful relationship through a dark world. Like Bent Justice, this is a classic story. NC 30, status: complete with sequel on-going. Xander/Spike.

3. Furnitureverse by deborahmm Wesley is drawn into the dark and kinky world of Spike and Angel and their D/s games and finds himself falling in love with Spike, but can a human love a vampire so different from himself? This is a story with a lot of dark kink which may upset tender readers, but its a classic. NC 30, status: complete. Spike/Angel/Wesley

4. Honor by Incasink Angel is an assasin samurai, Spike is a whore. This is the best thing she's done yet, and I adore her writing! NC 17 AU human spangel, status: only four parts so far, new fic.

5. Battleground by _sharvie_ Spike and Xander are in a place called Warverse where Spike must fight in gladiator-type battles and endure the sexual molestation of a dark leader while Xander is his valet. Not for the timid! NC 30 AU spander, status: only one part, new fic.

Yes, they are marvelous. It made me laugh that my fave AUs are all dark slash or slash. I wonder what that says about me! *g* I think you'd like Honor, if you haven't delved in. Its your kind of Spike and the fireworks between the characters reminds me of Bent Justice. :)

Agreed, there are always writers who can do AUs well -- in fact make you enjoy all sorts of things. Had to laugh at the NC 30 categorization though. Guess we'll need a new tag and Memories category!

That came of flames for things being a bit stronger than some readers were prepared for. I myself have upgraded a lot of the ratings on my own fics. In some cases, that made more people read them, though. LOL! ;)

What I find amazing is that most of these are long, complicated and extremely dense and multi-layered fics as well as dark and very sensual. I applaud the writers for being able to stick to the stories and the themes for so long. As someone who can't quite crack the 5 page mark, I think that's truly wonderful!

Great taste!! I know and adore 1. and 2. - mostly for their excellent and complex stories. And the incredible wall-sex in Bent justice is something worth to remember and revisit from time to time...

I'm going to to read FurnitureVerse soon. Have to wait with the others - I'm terrible with WIPs.

I think you will love Furnitureverse. There is nothing else like it. Each of these stories is unique. Inca finishes her WIPs, so you shouldn't have too long and then it will be done. :)

You really would enjoy it. It's just your sort of Spike, I think. She had a description of him lying around like a beautiful cat, purring as Ethan stroked him and boy, that was a Spike I've read and loved before!

NC 30 is the only way to go with darker stories, IMO. I think that it helps save a writer a lot of trouble with tender readers. They know its going to be dark and have things that might upset them. I felt obligated here to put them in to separate them from the less dark slash.
