Dawn is a great character *as well as* a great plot device. She's a teenager, hence, pretty inpredictable. She's a Key, so she can have unusual hidden powers. She's a creative person - ergo, she can indulge in unexpected hobbies. She's a Slayer's sister, literally made from Buffy - so she can be self-sacrificing, petty, courageous, bossy, sweet...
Dawn of the Dead by

Ensemble, PG-13. What if Dawn had been vamped in All the Way? First of all, it would be incredible fun. Second, it's a chance to reimagine BtVS and AtS mythology. Thirdly, such plot twist gives us a fresh look at moral dilemmas in Buffyverse. Four: the story is written in drabbles and practically each drabble delves into a situation worthy of a separate fic. Dense, compact and, may I repeat again - uproariously funny!
Back Before Dawn by
annakovsky
Ensemble, PG-13. What if Dawn's existence was a consequence of an imprudent wish? And what would Dawn do if she'd discover that her existence is the reason of all badness that happened in later seasons? Plotty, powerful, heartbreaking.
Dawn Summers, Matchmaking Genius by

R. Spike/Xander. Dawn, inspired by Tara's RPS about Xander and Spike decides to make it a reality. Great insights into characters, fandom and the essence of fanfiction. Also - incredibly funny.
Before the Time of Dawn by
shadowscast
R, Spike/Xander. Spike and Xander must travel back in 1999 to prevent an apocalypse in the future. The only person they can confide into is Dawn - because when the monks created Dawn, they projected her reality backwards. If they change her past before the monks do their spell (in 2000), it will be reset when they do it. (*bows before Shadowscast's plotty genius*)
Two Summers by
theohara
WIP, PG-13, late season 5. Dawn/Spike. Scoobies find out that Dawn keeps her Key essense only as long as she stays "pure" - i.e. a virgin. Buffy is furious, Scoobies are embarassed... Meanwhile, Dawn summarizes the situation this way: "If I could stop the apocalypse by doing something simple that half the kids in my class are doing anyway, and I didn't? Then it would be my fault!" Tragic and comic interweaves in this amazing, but, unfortunately, unfinished story.
