I know I always am full of squee when I see a banner accompany a story, act as a beautiful header, or exist purely for our viewing pleasure. It's also safe to say that not everyone is interested in manipping and banner making is definately a graphic outlet that allows for a fair amount of flexibility. Really great at working with screencaps? Then banner making might be the righth choice for you. Here are a few beautiful contributions that really took my breath away this year. These are also all worksafe.

1. Frozen Memories by [livejournal.com profile] alwaysjbj    [Giles/Jenny]
There's not a lot of art dedicated to Giles & Jenny, and why not? This is a beautiful piece with some dramatic textures. The haunted look on Giles' face in contrast to the placid serenity of Jenny's reminds us of how gutting her death was.

And the poor girl certainly has had a lot to lose in her young life. These ficlets and shots all revolve around that central, reoccuring theme that Dawn must constantly adapt to and cope with. The stories range in scope from Buffy running away after S2 and her death in S6, to the deaths of Joyce, Tara and Justin. One thing all these works have in common? Some really, really superb Dawn characterization.

1. The Flowers You Gave Me by[info]hands_of_blue
Dawn, Spike, PG, the summers between S2/S3 and S5/S6
Summary: It’s a special kind of day when it rains in Sunnydale.

Review: What I enjoyed so much about this fic is the slow evolution of Dawn's understanding of disappearance and death, first viewed from a child's eyes and then as a teenager. This fic touches on that inalienable truth of how perception changes with time and that patterns and cycles regularly arise. It's also a beautiful, tight piece that brings all the imagery back together by the end, sinching the story up neatly.

Five fics that I've thoroughly enjoyed reading in 2008 and which all had one thing in common. Varying degrees of 'kink' as well as some darn good writing and characterization. Read more... )

[livejournal.com profile] dawnofme never pimps her work so I thought that I'd pick my top five of the fics/artwork that she did in 2008.

She'll probably tell me off for doing this but what the hell...I'm safe in England and she's in California. Why can I never write that without hearing it in my head as Calli-forn-nye-ay?.  I digress - click on the cut to find the gems that I've selected!

I am in awe of people who write 100 word drabbles - hell, my lead up to this will probably use up half of what they tell a whole story with!  LOL!

[livejournal.com profile] kudagirl constantly amazes me with the imagery and the emotions she can evoke in so few words.  Here are just five of my favourite ones of 2008. It was so hard to pick only five.  Hope that you enjoy them too.
