1. Thrown Away by
leviathan101
Characters: Spike, Angel, Buffy, Dru, others.
Why: For me, it's one of the best Spike fanvids I've seen in a long, long time. Not only is the song AWESOMECAKES (lurve!), it also describes Spike's story in perfect clarity. From Drusilla's abandonment to Buffy's many beatings, Spike has taken a hit or two. He's been mistreated and thrown away, no matter how much he longs to be accepted (as told in the summary). This vid captures the pain of being Spike through most of BTVS in stark clarity. As a Spike fan, it is tremendous love.
2. Still Breathing by Charmax
Characters: Spike/Buffy, Angel, Robin, others.
Why: The best summary of Spike I've seen since Charmax's other vid, Respectable. I'm not even sure where to start--from the envelope to Buffy, back to Angel and all in between, this vid is powerful. I especially love the hot and cold contrasts between Spike burning up in the hellmouth to him drenched in the rain in Not Fade Away. The story of how the amulet affects him is also pretty unique--and the similarities between Buffy and Angel and their relationship to Spike is also interesting. Not to mention Robin. Lots of things going on in this vid--you can watch it several times in a row, and love it even more.
3. Creep by
bradcpu
Characters: Spike, Faith & Buffy
Why: I LOVE the studies of all three of these characters during the last parts of s7. Brad shows Faith's sense of not belonging when she's in Sunnydale, set adrift among the rest of the gang (which is equally her own fault, as well as theirs). Her interaction and connection to Buffy is done VERY well here, as well as her common attributes to Spike. For Spike's part, his story is equally heart wrenching, caught between his love for Buffy, his actions in s6, and the consequences. (My favorite Spike moment is "I wanna be special" with his shoes stopping at the line of shadow--a lot is said in so little words.) Like Brad says, Faith and Spike tend to bring out the darker aspects of Buffy's personality, and both have a sense of staying away from her for her own good (because, for one thing, they don't belong). The final parts of the vid are especially beautiful--Buffy smiling at the crater of Sunnydale, Faith a blurred background behind her. Faith and Spike have a lot in common in this vid. It rips my heart out every time.
4. Basement Apartment by
lynnenne
Characters: Spike/Angel, Dana, Lindsey, others.
Why: The song pretty much sums up a lot of Spike's feelings during s5 of Angel for me (as well as Angel himself, and their connection). It seems very tired, really sort of aching, like, "here we go again," and yet lost all the same. My favorite parts about this vid are the basement metaphors, the Spike/Angel interplay, and the Dana scenes.
lynnenne claims she doesn't know anything beyond cut and edit, but this vid hardly needs any special affects. It's very real, and it carries a strong message.
5. Little Willy by
angelspike69
Characters: Spike with others.
Why: I LOL at this song choice, but it really does work well with Spike's character. Not much to say other than watch! It's highly entertaining, and an excellent vid.
Edit: Fixed Charmax's vid link thanks to
yourlibrarian. Looking at the LJ post, I noticed it was made in 2007. Doh! Oh well, it's still a good vid!
