There are WIPs and there are those likely to remain unfinshed. Of the latter, there are some just too good to pass up even though they may never be completed. Here's my list of my five favorites (and YES, I recommend you read them and other stories by their authors as the quality is just that good).

Not gonna count this one that is too obvious and also unavailable:

Dancing Lessons by the Redemptionista group (several writers collaberating on this mamouth undertaking. Sadly I can give no link as the site was removed when the website owner (and co-writer) left the fandom.......shed a tear as it was sooooo close to being concluded! If you are new to fandom....ask if anyone has a copy and beg!

1. Haunt of The House by Tracy (Jericho)
Buffy and Spike are terrorized in a house with a history of vampires, ghosts and tragedy. The original characters alone make this one a classic and the implications on vampire lore are compelling. Shades of grey issues abound in this wonderful, nearly completed story.

2. As The Romans Do by theohara (Helga Van Nutwimple) Post NFA epic that makes sense.

3. Two Summers by theohara (Helga Von Nutwimple)
Spawn, wonderful, logical Spawn. A plan to defeat Glory in this alternate S5 leads to a bond between Dawn and Spike that is much more than either wanted or expected. Now that Dawn is grown, what are the real feelings and what are the residual effects of this bond.

4. Castaway by Ripe Wicked Plum Buffy is given a graduation present of a cruise with daddy and his latest girlfriend. On board, unbeknownst to Buffy is Spike and his dark princess. The ship sinks, Buffy and Spike are the sole survivors. They form a symbiotic relationship for survival that leads to love and a new life that is interrupted by a rescue by the Scoobies. Can the real relationship they forged survive? Was life better on that island? Can anyone tell a tale quite like Plummie?

5. Pandoras Boxer by Speakr2customrs Now in fairness, this will likely be completed one day and it can be looked on as "complete in one sense already (hence its place as number 5). This starts in the cave as Spike wins his challenges at the end of season 6 and then catapults back in time to season 4. ALl of this alternate season 4 is complete with plans for season5 and season6 in this alternate time line. Yummy goodness as Spike seeks to have a happier unlife for one and all.

All of these writers are top drawer and none of their stories (even the WIPs and unfinished beauties) are to be missed. Publish worthy one and all...you won't be disappointed.

Nice to see that's been preserved. That was a huge undertaking.

I was thinking just this past week that there should be some term for the abandoned WIP (as opposed to one that's just in progress or taking a bit of a hiatus). Plus, authors don't often announce when they've just packed it in on a story so it's often hard to know as a reader when to move things from one category to another.

But I completely agree that there are stories well worth reading despite the fact that they have no official conclusion. The very fact that we keep hoping for one is proof of their success.

How hard do you think one would have to beg in order to have a copy of "Dancing Lessons" emailed to cacsr(at)yahoo(dot)com? I'm not too proud, to be sure!

Please disregard and/or forgive my impatience. It helps if I read the other posts, doesn't it? [/sarcasm]

Have you read Mary's Journeys series? It has two completed "books" and the third is about 4 chapters/rough drafts.
It's a masterpiece in my opinion, but unfortunately will not be finished. It's been so for about a year already.

"It's a masterpiece in my opinion". Words.

I keep on hoping..Last March when I sent Mary an email asking is she planned to post the following chapters ( draft version) she said that she wouldn't let her work unfinished.
But , a long time had passed now. :(

Yes, I second everyone reading that one. It's a huge and magnificent enterprise but worth waiting for a conclusion.

Mary told me her RL has been really busy, and her daughter got married, etc. However, she plans to work on Journeys again.

Fear not, though - sometime we WILL find out exactly where Journeys is going! :)

Good choices; though I still have hope for "Pandora's Boxer". S2C promised it'd be finished eventually!

My addition to the great unfinished stories would be "Half gifts" by automatedalice. That's one I'd love to concluded. I'm not at home so I don't have an address or I'd link it....

I'll try when I get home (always assuming the roads in Eastern Oregon thaw out enough to let me actually *get* home!) I know I have the link book-marked. I did look for the site, and I haven't been able to locate it. If I can't find it I'm pretty sure I saved it as a word file, and I could always send you that. It really is well worth a read; gorgeous writing!

Thanks, I made it home! Looong drive; both passes were a mess. Why do I always think it's a good idea to drive out of state in the winter? And now I have to go to work in a couple of hours. Yeah, my own fault but I'd much rather crawl into my nice warm bed!

I just checked, and I get a 404 message on the site I have bookmarked. Sorry! I do have it saved as a Word file, and would be happy to send it if you give me an email address. You can email it to me if you'd like. I'm zanthinegirl at yahoo.com, and I'll be home for another couple of hours. If not I can do it in the morning after work; let me know!

Great list, Kathleen! :) Some are new to me, and some I'm in total agreement with.
I agree with [livejournal.com profile] zanthinegirl that "Half-Gifts" is also a wonderful WIP. Something that I've started and stopped a dozen times, always to get lost in the beautiful language. And I've also spent about the last 30 minutes trying to find it. Heh.
I was sure it was nominated at the RDAs, which by the way [livejournal.com profile] desoto_hia873 posted the link to the LJ community [livejournal.com profile] rda_awards the other day. But no. Ah well, come back to me if you still need.

I miss 147 Days by [livejournal.com profile] sin_of_pride. The chance for her finishing that one off, is very, very small... But it is one of the best writing I have ever read. If you haven't read it, do so. It deserves it. :-)
