My top 5 slash WIPs that will probably never be finished

I'll be honest – I hate WIPs. I hate them with a passion. But it seems like the best fics never get finished, so I'm stuck with a lot of them, in all my fandoms. So here are my favorites in the Whedonverse! NOTE: Assume all of these are NC-17. You have been warned. *g*

Things That Haunt Us series by emungere (Firefly, Mal/Simon)
This is probably my favorite Firefly series ever. It's terrifically in character, with just enough snark to balance out the enormous angst of the whole thing. The boys are in love but they're not talking, of course; but fortunately events conspire against them. Niska is even in it, which is great because I always liked him. And the second to last chapter has some of the most gorgeous M/S pr0n I've ever read.

Afterwards!verse by riani1 (BtVS, Spike/Xander)
I've read this series probably 50 times, and it never gets old. It's post-NFA, which is my favorite kind of Spander – as much as I love fics set during the series, I honestly feel that nothing would have happened between these two until Xander had time to grow up a little, away from the 'Dale. riani1 is one of my top BtVS writers; or at least she would be, if I dug more of the pairings she writes. *g*

Connections series by xanzpet (BtVS/Angel, Xander/Angel)
xanzpet has left the fandom and LJ; which is a real shame, because I think this could have been one of the best X/A series ever written. Both of them are wonderfully in character – no schmoopy OOC-ness here, no siree. The tension between these two is as sharp as ever, but it takes a while to grow into more, which is what I love best about long fics.

Fair Trade by itinerant_vae (Firefly, Mal/Simon) (sequel to Postludes, which is finished)
itinerant_vae is one of my top Firefly writers. She understands this pairing like no other. Unfortunately, the last chapter of this fic was posted over 2 years ago, so I doubt she will finish what was turning out to be the longest Firefly epic ever written. Unlike many slash writers, she understands the entire crew, not just the pairing; I lovelovelove her Zoe. But she has pretty much left the fandom at this point, and there is almost no M/S posted these days. I miss these boys. *g*

Misconceptions by Iamthelizardqueen (BtVS, Spike/Xander)
This fic is mpreg, which can squick a lot of people; but if you relax and get into it, I promise you'll love it. This is one of those "they hate each other at first but then end up falling in love" kind of stories, which are always fun if they're done well. And there's no actual Buffy!bashing, though she is kind of a bitch at first. *g*

I agree about riani1. The title escapes me now but I remember reccing a historical S/X fic she wrote -- I thought it was wonderfully different and with richly developed characters.

It is always a shame when these stories don't get finished but I have a couple of favorite WIPs saved too!

I had actually asked awhile ago if there is a livejournal set up for listing great WIPs that were never finished - just to give the author encouragement. Things like Hi Honey by Mrs. Muir or In the Darkness by Gia. One of my favorites is Another One Like It Tomorrow by tkp. Is there a place on livejournal like that?
